Default Mini Mini update again

B16 intake manifold modifications:

motor and tranny have been test fitted in the subframe multiple times... IM has now been chopped up a bit to hopefully clear the firewall/bulkhead. Final placement of the motor/trans should take place in a few weeks, still on schedule to have a rolling chasis by december.

manifold no longer has any of that gay ****... ie, fast idle/preheat circuit chit. is a bit lighter also.

end of the plenum will more than likly have to be cut down a bit to clear the brake MC.

need more time, money and parts. Dick Yuengling never wore clownshoes.

Any pictures of the motor being test fitted? I'm curious how it looks.

You need to take some kind of update pic of the Mini including some alcoholic beverage to make up for it now.

Just a little interior removal in prep for redoing the floor pans and rocker panels.

Roll bar and rear interior trim it now out. Will be hitting the rear pan with the grinder this weekend to see what's up. Hope to have all the rotten stuff cut out this month, then start welding in December.

Anyone have a welder I can borrow for a couple months?

[edit] One more. Almost got all the fur out now.

It's not

A good bit of the rear pan is still structurally good, so I'm goign to grind the surface rust off and coat with POR-15 or something like that. Any good piece of metal in there is going to get treated and painted.

The bad stuff will get cut out and replaced. We'll probably build new rockers using box steel and tie them into the frame with pipe. Will have to fabricate new front body mounts, probably using some big poly bushings like you'd get in a body lift kit. New floor pans will go in (thankfully the center tunnel section is rust-free), then new seat mounts, then new seats. Coat the whole damn thing with a brush-in bedliner.

Would love to get done by December so I can keep the registration current, but that is doubtful.

I had some exterior shots hosted on my other site, but it's offline now. I'll see what I can come up with.

por-15 doesn't like to stick to smooth ground surfaces. either paint directly over the rust (hence, Paint Over Rust) or sandblast it to give the metal some 'tooth'.

I'm not grinding down to smooth metal, just knocking the surface flakes off. I'll try to get a pic of what's been ground so far to show you how it looks.

Do any stores actually sell POR-15, or is it all internet?

you will be amazed how far a 4 OZ. (NOT 40 oz.) can will spread. I suggest you pick up the little 6 pack, and it should cover your entire floorboard at least twice.

Fuggin' a, D

I'm going to get the starter pack and play with that until I figure out the best plan of attack. Got to get a welder as soon as $ permits.
