im thinking of trading my hatch for a 2001 CBR F4I this is a description of the bike below. my question would this be a bad bike to begin with. im 6'1 190 if that makes any difference. im just curious if this is a good idea or not. your input is appreciated.
"Has about 20k on the bike. Minor scatch's on one side, not very noticable unless up close. Very clean and well taken car of. Bike also comes with Red, White, Black Teknic jacket size 44-54 and a black medium helmet."

your gonna get rid of your car and only run around on a bike??? I would not recomend it but to each its own. 20,000 miles on a 2001 is kinda high. My first bike was a 2001 R6 and I paid $6100 for it. had 4000 miles and in mint condition. My guess would be that if he sold that bike he could get maybe $4500 for it... about.... How does the jacket thing work??? You get to choose from a new jacket?? And I would not keep the helmet. I have never been a fan of used helmets, they are made to be used once, after that you to replace them, so since you don't know if he fell off the bike in the grass or something or droped the helmet to many times, I would buy a new helmet. how did he get those "minor scratchs on a particular side? did he drop it?
And ask him to take the bike to the dealership and have it inspected.
Good luck and keep us posted.

hes asking 6500 for the bike.. im guessing thats way overpriced. im kinda new to bikes im really intrested in getting something. maybe i should rethink this some more before i jump in head first.
I learned on an '88 Yamaha FZ600. $1000, but I'm sure I could've bargained it down (it was my first bike, and I was too enthralled with the prospect of riding to care about haggling). Great bike to learn on (IMO) and really cheap. Insurance was low, too. Sold it for $900 (to a friend, otherwise I'm sure I could've gotten the same grand I paid for it).

The most important thing to know about any motorcycle, regardless of which you get first, is control is more important 100% of the time than going fast is. Anyone can get on a motorcycle and roll back on the throttle, but its extremely important to learn control first. Control, control, control, control. I had a friend who bought a 600F2 and crashed it a week later, but I ride with a guy that has an R1, which was his first bike, and he has never laid it down. I currently have a 2001 F4i, its my second bike, but I love it. I've got like 15k miles on it, and it runs like a champ.
My first bike is a 00 cbr600 f4 but I've been riding for a while. It might be overkill for a serious beginner. As far as the trade, I don't think I would do it. I mean 20K for a 2001 is a lot!! My 00 cbr has 2,900 miles (all track) and I was very lucky to have known the guy. I also would not accept a used helmet. I just cannot trust other people's cleanliness and excuse me "head funk??" Plus, you don't really know if the helmet has been dropped. Most helmets are supposed to be discarded if they've been dropped from 3ft. or more.

thanks guys this has really helped i dont think im gonna do the trade instead im probably gonna look for something cheap to learn on and save up for something nicer.
My first bike was/is 2001 R6, as long as you have a good head on your shoulders and can control yourself you'd be fine... But $6400...I would laugh in his face and walk away. THats more than what I paid for the R6 with 4000 miles.... His bike has some major mileage! Anyways, ya starting on something small is a great idea.. Take the MSF class too.
