what kind of pistons do you have?

I suggest you pull your spark plugs and check them to make sure there isn't any oil or build up on them.

If there is. You have a faulty ring.

CTR pistons...I just changed the spark plugs two weeks ago. I knew it was oil

Actually if there were faulty rings or bad cyclinder wall, would a compression test show it? I just did one a week ago and cyc. 1-3 wa 215 and 4 was about 208

yeah, a leakdown test would show

but the most obvious sign would be just the oil buidling up on the spark plug. It could just be a faulty oil ring and the 1st and 2ndary rings are fine. Then the oil is being pushed up into the combustion chamber and being burned.

I got a friend with the same problem. Same cylinder (#4). His car runs fine, but it just burns oil up in HIGH rpms (8K+). So I dunno if he wants to rip it all apart just to replace 1 piston.

yeah im gonna pull the spark plugs..You think that cyclinder 4 is the problem? even though it's not much lower, compression wise?

I do burn oil at high RPM's

If it only smokes when you first start your car and not while you are driving, it is likely your valve seals, not your piston rings.

ok, just pulled the plugs. There "some" oil on the thread of the spark plug in cylinder 3. Also when i shine the light into it , i see oil on it (not sure what im looking at) and i dont see this on any of the other's. Does this narrow it down? Should i be nervous?

well you'll know exactly when you pull the plugs. The thing will be covered in oil.

I'd make a good guess it's #4 like I said earlier it could just be the oil rings at the bottom that didn't get a good spec gap or the alignment is wrong. The 1st and 2ndary might be sealing correctly to obtain a decent compression, but when you rev the car high it's not going to matter. The oil is going to be forced into the cumbustion chamber and burned.

I'll have to take a pic of that spark plug tonight. I kept it when he changed his. The thing is fouled out. lol you cant miss it.

this is a pretty normal plug, due for replacement, but no oil on it.

if the thread is covered in oil, the the plug seals could be gone. i know thats what happened to me.
check that before rebuilding the motor with new rings or anythying hey

but yeah... blue smoke is not a good sign. in my old cars it's always meant time to ditch the motor.

couldnt just be a bad valve seal, maybe one popped out. i would look into that beefore a ring. also, isnt there a seal inside the valve cover that will leak into one of the cylinders.

you also said white smoke, that would be coolant burning. a headgasket problem.

If it's still under warantee, they should have a look and see what the problem is at the least.
