Default Good short shifter vs. cheap short shifter....

Is there much of a difference between good short shifter and a cheap one? Like Neuspeed vs. OBX. I know you get what you pay for, and I know that some are made of stainless steal and some are cheap aluminum, but besides that, for just feel and shift quality, is there a difference? Oh, and I'd also put new bushings in no matter what I got.

One more thing: has anyone ever heard of the Solo shifter? I've heard some pretty good things about them

Matt

I bought a short shifter over EBAY for 30 bucks. I love it. I made sure to get the steel one though. It works just fine. do your research first before you buy.

Ive got the Solo in my 2000 LS, its dope. I likes, shorter throw and a bit shorter in height. Its the only short shifter Ive ever had so I dont have anything to compare it to but Ive been told the closest contender is the C's.

Hey what's up? I got the B&M Edge and just like all B&M's it rattles. I think I'm going to send B&M an email and ask why and how to get rid of the rattle. Otherwise it is a great shortshifter. See you at the track. L8R

So far, I've know of 4 DC shifters snapping (supposedly good stuff, but personally I'm not a big fan of DC) and 2 OBX shifters snapping. Several of my friends and I have Tenzo shifters and haven't any probs with them. They were very cheap (I got them at cost for everyone I knew) and work great. I can't say much about the other shifters as I don't have any experience with them. Whether it's a $130 DC shifter or a $70 Tenzo shifter, it doesn't really seem to matter...just hope you don't get one of the ones from their "bad" batch. Either that, or go ballz out and get a $300 C's shifter (yummy)...I've never heard a complaint about those!

i had one of those cheap obx ones and it doesnt come with washers or brushings, so you cant tighten the bolt to much or itll b diffcult to shift. When i was driving the bolt came loose and my whole linkage fell off and was dragging on the street. I switched to the skunk 2 and havent had any probs with it.

Yup, mine rattled too. Replaced it with a neuspeed SS and am a happy camper. I would rather get a quality peice than a cheap one. But that's just me. Also, if you decide to go with a cheap shifter i think you'd be happy too cause you won't know how a quality shifter performs and vice versa.

Honda trannies dont' like short shifters. If you want to make it a little shorter. Cut a little off the thread off the shifter to lower it an inch. It gives a little bit of a better feel and its free. I know for a fact that short shifters such as DC, Tenzo, OBX, etc. brake trannies.

From waht Ive been told..it changes the gears too quick for the syncros..and they can go bad. Its happened on 2 transmissions for me...no more short shifter on the new GSR tranny.

.......or maybe its cuz i power shift whenever i race
that would be a more likely culprit of the problem
