Default 3 Angle Valve job on Type-R.

Talked to a local machine shop today and they said they can do 3 angle and 5 angle jobs on my car. They quoted $125 for the 3 angle. I was wondering what kind of gains and if this is a worth while mod. While they are at it I,m thinking of getting the Mugen head gasket to raise my comp. This shop was recommended by several people so I know it must be good. Are there any certain things to watch out for. I am weary of anyone working on the R's internals so I want to be sure that it is not that much different on a type-r. By the way the price included setting the springs, whatever that means.

The factory head flows pretty good as is. around 255-260 cfm. It doesn't sound like these guys have a lot of experience working on Acura engines. Dont let just anybody do headwork. There is actually a science to doing it. Bigger isn't necessarily better. Go to someone who knows Acura heads. If you're gonna get headwork spend the money and get it done by someone reputable. Portflow is pretty reasonable and they do good work. If you want a real good head make sure its flow is verified with a flowmeter. Not too many people have them. Skunk2 in Hayward California uses that on their heads. Really good headwork isn't cheap. You do pay for what you get. The difference though is night and day with a nice ported head. Hope this wasn't too long.

A 3 or 5 angle Valve job does 0 for flow, it improves valve seating, sealing and heat transfer off of the valve to the head. What they do is remove your valves and grind your valve seats to either 3 or 5 angles and then match up your valves to your seats, This can improve leakdown. Problem is, Hondas heads seal extremely well, My car leaks down between 1 and 0%. I dont reccomend it, Hondas have a 3 angle grind from the factory anyways, justlook in your factory repair manual.
