Someone anyone please help...LOL i just bought a used 1997 honda accord auto. $ cylinder engine 52k on car NO modifications. just normal car but when accelerating im hearing this annoying pinging noise, its not extremely loud but loud enough to start pissing me off recently only had car a week ...thought maybe someone here could help read thru some topics seems like a wealth of knowledgeacross the board...now the thing is not really much knocking or pinging if any at all just when in neutral just when pressing on the gas pedal....when i get to 60 mph or higher not as loud but its still there..some please is there any easy fix any fix suggestions????please help thanks

 

Is the noise coming from the engine?

 

YES!!! YES!!! it is coming from engine i know that for a fact

 

and i would say its more a pinging noise than a loud knocking just a real damn annoying cheapo sounding noise coming from engine

 

I don't have the secret decoder ring for the second half of your post.

Run the highest octane gas you can find. If it 'pings' less or if it stops pinging all together, the first thing you need to do is check your ignition timing. Second, check for excessive carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. And third, check for proper operation of the EGR valve.

How many miles does the car have? Under 150K? If it's less than 150k, take it to the dealer. You have an extended emission warranty.

 

A knocking noise..... that might not be from the engine, check your cat converter, the cover on top might be loose. I had to take my off cuz when you accelerate the exhaust gas vibrates the converter, if the cover is loose on top it makes that **** sound.
