I need new shocks, need some thoughts and opinions
Looking like i need to buy new shocks asap.
I've heard good things about these shocks so i'd like some input from ppl who have them. I'd like to keep it in the $300-350 range
KYB AGX
Tokico Illumina
Koni Reds (i'd put yellows on the list but those run from $500+)
any other good suggestions?

I have ground control coilovers. at this point i'm trying to replace the shocks because a) they're stock b) my rear driver side shock is apparently shock because it keeps sagging to the same height no matter how high i raise the coilover

But the capability to take a higher springrate isn't equal to dampening ability, is it?
It would be my guess, that the reds don't have the range of dampening that AGXs do, since they aren't adjustible, meaning they're a compromise.
I have AGXs, but the ride can be a little stiff unless you set them low. From what I've read, Koni Yellow provide more dampening and give a better ride, when compared to AGX at an equal rates.

Valving has everything to do with dampening.
Everything I have read leads to show the Reds being a better dampener for higher spring rates. The AGX are better suited for mild drops/rates like Comptech/Pro-kit, etc.
The reds are adjustable, but they have to be off the car to be adjusted and they only have two settings.
A lot of people mistake adjustability for being better, when in reality having a shock that is not valved correctly for your spring rate is going to have a worse effect on your ride quality than a dampener that is stiffer all the time.
All a dampener does is control the energy of a spring. If you have really stiff springs, but really soft shocks you are going to have a very bouncey and hard to control car.

In my case, I have ITR springs, which are close to the OEM springs and the AGX. I've been happy with this set-up and find that it makes the car a good deal more capable, at the cost of a firm, but livable ride. Definitely the car doesn't float through curves on the freeway like the OEM set-up did.
