Default LS owners....cam tuning??

any of you guys ever tune or LS stock cams???? IF so any results. TO me it sounds like free HP. Well, free after you dyno tune and get the cam gears. But i have read about GSR and ITR owners tuning there stock cams and finding a few more hourses throughout the powerband. YEs, i know the two different motors are quite different but its all still honda technology. I just didnt know if there was any more HP to be found through cam tuning.

--any experences??

I investigated the stock cam tune thing for an Ls when I had one before my R's. I think I remember that with everything stock and just adjustable gears that about 3 HP maybe at most 5 HP was achievable, "not very noticeable." The LS is not the same engine since it doesn't have Vtec but that doesn't mean that dropping in a set of Crower or Crane cams and tuning them is a bad idea. I'm not sure about the gains with those cams but I'd guess more than with just stock. At the point that I was thinking of tuning my LS or going FI I decided to buy an ITR and go NA with that.

There are alot of different mods that make the LS an awesome performer. To begin with it has a very robuust engine and a nice stout lowend torque. Turbo is a great choice or even Supercharging. You could do either of those and not even need to tune the cams but tuning always helps a little. It plays a bigger role with an ITR motor. But when you start to go NA with an ITR the $ goes up up up!!!

If I still had my LS I would go Turbo and boost the **** out of it, "kinda kidding" but, not really it was my second car anyway.

Good luck,

A.

I ordered some 62404 cams for my LS, I'll let you know what there like after I put them in. It seems the LS cams kinda crap out after 5500 rpm's so upgrading them may be a wise choice, besides I got a complete package of cams/springs/retainers for what most GSR/ITR cams alone cost.

Damn.... I'd be interested to hear the results on that (Crowers)

As far as cam gears and tuning your stock cams..... yes you will find HP, moreso if you already have a couple of mods done.... the adjusting will free up all of the HP available... but dyno tuning (and you will need to do it on a dyno) can be expensive, expecially when you have to pay for dyno time AND tuning....

You must wiegh the cost vs. HP increase..... and as far as new cam gears, you MUST tune them or you waste your money....
