I recently acquired a dead 1st gen with some electrical gremlins and I'm trying to find some info on them. Anyone here have experience with alternators on 1st gens or know of another site I could try (already searched here and TI)?

FWIW, this 1st gen reportedly has a problem with the alternator. I charged up the battery and didn't get anything. Checked the fuses and found a 65A fuse going to the alternator blown. So I replaced it and it started smoking!!

So I took off the alternator and I'm going to have it tested but I wonder if they had the wiring all screwed up on it. There are what look like 3 different connectors going to the alternator. A plug connector and a wire that are easily identifiable and I know where they go, but then there is a small 3rd wire.

Any info would help.

Oh, and don't reply with "go get a FSM", I'm going to do that next, but hopefully someone here can provide some insight. Thanks.
