Default OBD2...ignition timing adjustment

I am sick of people telling me that if you adjust the timing on an OBD2 equipped car that the ecu will just knock the timing back down to 16 degrees...

I just need some confirmation that this is untrue...thanks

as long as you short the connector before adjusting the timing then you can successfully adjust the timing...... ecu automatically adjusts timing depending on the weather conditions and also if the engine is pinging...... the timing adjustment is more like a starting point...... HTH

I think someone with a Helms manual with the year 2000 supplement should clear this up for us. I heard this from both sides already. The one thing I found weird was that the specs for ignition timing were not printed on the the hood like the previous years, which leads me to believe that the adjustment isn't necessary anymore. If you look closely, it says no other adjustments necessary.

well i had my honda mechanic friend check the timing on my car (97 gsr obd2) and the timing was already 18. so if the computer always backs it down then why is mine set at 18? i know that 16-18 is stock but if everyone says that the obd2 always makes 16 then why is mine set at 18? doesnt make sense to me. hope this post makes sense to everyone.

when i put on a new distributor, i did it blindly(just straight on, no reference points)...the next day at the dealer when they replaced the battery i told them this and asked if they could adjust the timing back to normal and they told me that since the engine has been modified that "there is no way we can get timing back to specification"......i don't know what that means but maybe it means that the ECU does adjust timing according to engine conditions

Integras 2000 and up have obd ii version 2, which is why helms came out with a new manual specifically for 2000. It's slightly different than your 97 gs-r which can be adjusted by rotating the distributor.
