Man this has been the darkest year in racing that I've experienced. Daijiro Kato, Lovell and Freeman, the two Club Rally Spectators, Jerome Zimmermann and now Paul Mumford. What a shame

Podium in his first race. Winner in his second. But that talent belies what an obviously incredible person the guy was. If you've been following his OT exploits and now his professional career, you realize what a complete shock this is.

I've been on the World-Challenge boards, Corner-Carvers, and OTC. Still in shock.

<= who didn't know him but still feels like someone slammed me in the chest.

WTFrick, why is everyone dying on us?

No ****** way...I don't believe it. I didn't even know him and I'm still deeply saddened by this...I was looking forward to supporting him in the future and seeing him kick all kinds of ***. I lurk on CC.com and from what little I read from him and about him as well as in the NSXFiles, he was surely a wonderful guy. He's from the same city as me...I was hoping to meet him one day. Wow...

I feel the loss. I knew only of him through what I read on corner-carvers and NSX-files, and news.. but I still feel the loss. I can't imagine what others who knew him better are feeling.

Yikes, a fire inflight. Not good, but extremely rare. That's a big loss to the racing community.

Why bother driving? Thousands more die that way. For his way of life, a private plane was/is a great convenience.

An amazing driver. I followed coverage of him in Sport Compact Car for the USCC, and read about his exploits in GT.

RIP

I saw him run at a few Viper Days events in recent years. He owned those events!
I was looking forward to seeing him run a full season in WC GT next year. He would surely have been a title contender. RIP Mr. Mumford.
