Looking for alignment shop in NYC area that will work with coilovers
The looks you get when you tell them you want custom alignment settings with your coilovers. Its like pulling teeth. Can anyone please help?
what does ride height adjustment have to do with alignment after youve already set your ride height?
Through searching here the closest to NYC i could find is http://www.a-t-s-usa.com/meccanic-shop.shtml in Westchester.
I too am looking for a good alignment shop in NYC. The last place i went got mad because my car is .5 inches lower than stock.

You want to adjust Camber by resetting ride height-IF I read this correctly? This is NOT what you want to do in the overall scheme of things. Camber kits are what you really need. If you are willing to pay for the service a good shop can adjust the ride height on the alignment rack. I had my Honda dealer do the alignment, camber kit install and final ride height settings on the rack-not cheap.
Most shops have difficulty getting cars lowered to 5", at the rocker panels, or so on as there is equipment mounted on the rack that can contact the underbody of the car. Again my dealer is accustomed to this and even installed a service rack designed with lowered cars in mind.
This is the sort of place you need to locate. Even a truck alignment shop can do the work.

I'm not some kind of ricer here with a slammed car. The fender archs of my car are 24" from the ground. A stock Prelude measures 25". Plus, I have 205/50-15 tires instead of the stock 205/55-15 which lower it a bit more. So my car is lowered less than an inch. All I want is the heighest ride possible with the amount of camber that I want. I dont think -2 degrees in the front will slizzam me.
contact Rodney on this board, he can hook you up if you are willing to travel North.
Also, soloef may have some connections.
finally there is a NYR SCCA group on yahoo, ask the question there.

hey wont, you race sts, correct? camber kits are allowed there if i am not mistaken. so, corner weight the car, then set up the camber when you have it aligned.
meh...i'm waiting to see what the STAC will say about camber kits in ST next year. otherwise I'd be all over some skunk2's
Thanks Rodney, but I dont think corner-weighting is on order for me. I dont have money for it, and my car is a daily driver so when I fill it with gas...there goes the corner weighting. I'm just looking for a simple solution. I hate camber kits as well. Ugh.

well, cornerweighting is an integral part of the race setup. would you ever do an autocross without checking your tire pressure? probably not. so, you should have the corner weights done. trust me on this. it makes a big difference (providing the person doing our corner weights doesn't have his head up his ***) also, don't hate camber kits! they are a good thing
*side note- if i ever get the spare $ to buy some scales, i would cornerweight cars locally for a modest fee.

Whats the modest fee? Where are you?
I'm also looking into front camber kits. I got an alignment done today and I have -0.9 on the left front and -1.3 on the right front. I'd like somewhere in the range of -2.5 but I dont want to go any lower.

I am picking up a set of Toyo's from Phil this Saturday. Maybe you and I can both go to Phil when we get our suspension. I am actually praying that I get the suspension next week. I may just order a set of Skunk 2's camber arms also.
If you want to take little drive you can come to our shop in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I think we are like 2 hours away from NYC. Just check out my sig I think we are still runing that special for corning balancing I think its like $75 and we also do alignments.
Can someone explain how corner balancing works? I know how the scales works and about changing the height of each corner, but what do you do if you already have your alignment set, wont it be altered when you corner balance necessitating you to align it again only to ruin your corner balancing?
