OT: Australian V8 Super Cars
This year North Americans will be able to buy one of these V8 supercars that races in Australia!
The Holden Monaro V8 RWD sedan will be available in the US as the Pontiac GTO.
Probably old news but here are some pics for those who haven't heard:
Also: "It's got a 5.7 Litre 350 horsepower modified LS1 engine coupled to either an electronically controlled 4L60-E four-speed automatic or a six-speed close ratio manual transmission. The power is then sent to the rear wheels through a limit slip differential. The car is expected to go 0-60 MPH in less than six seconds with a top speed of 160 MPH. For stopping, you have power-assisted four-wheel ventilated disc brakes controlled by a four-channel anti-lock braking system. "
Should be a fun car to take to the track once you strip all the excess weight out of it....

Cool - Aussie V8's are back. But what's this - someone else is watching a news program now!
Vracer111, who needs to get his own place so SpeedVision can be on 24/7...no matter if I'm there or not....
P.S. - yeah that S60R commercial is neat... really I like that RX-8 commercial though...Gimme a Hug!

Wow!
I don't recognize ANY of the interior switches, gauges, etc. as carry-overs from the GM rental cars I've driven in the past 2 years.

Intersting program note: For those of you planning on buying an open-face helmet, did you see Max Wilson trying to wash the glass splinters out of his eyes after that thing hit his windscreen?

No, the only cable offered in my building doesn't even offer Speed TV, nor Comedy Central. Unless those two criteria can be met, I refuse to pay for cable. I need to find a more local freak to watch Speed TV with...

LOL, exactly what happened to me. The last thing I remember were the flashes of fire from the sides of the cars as one of them got bumped in a turn and went spinning. I fell way asleep in the easy chair before the end.
I leave Speedchannel on all day when at work, for the Dogs to watch of course

Crap, I should have thought of that before, especially since I working only 2 miles north of your place last night until 9:30. I don't think I have your number anyways...

I don't know the exact setup of the front but it will have an IRS.
Here's a good article on it:
http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/...10111
And another AP article:
NEW YORK (AP) -- General Motors Corp. is bringing back the GTO, the muscle car of the 1960s. The GTO will be built by GM's Australian unit Holden and will be based on the Holden Monaro coupe, Vice Chairman Robert Lutz said Wednesday. The Monaro ``shares that V8 heritage and a brawny, muscular stance with the classic GTO and it will make a fine flagship for Pontiac,'' Lutz said during the New York Auto International Show. Lutz said the number of vehicles to be produced is undetermined and depended on how many Holden can build. The new GTO will be available in the 2004 model year. He said the vehicle will be shown early in next year's auto show season, perhaps in Los Angeles or Detroit. The GTO was immortalized in a 1960s song performed by Ronnie and the Daytonas. On news that the car would be coming back, GTO club Web sites boasted several messages. Joseph Genera, president of the Connecticut chapter of the GTO Association of America, said a new GTO is great -- if it stays true to its original form. ``It has to exude `muscle car','' said Genera, 41, of Guilford, Conn. ``It has to look strong standing still, should be able to perform the way it looks, with power."

Yes, by at least 3 sec a lap! My guess is that they are somewhere between a Trans-am car and a Winston cup in road course lap speeds.
