Default AEM CAI question

Ok I have a question. I keep hearing people talking about how VTEC is sooo loud now that they have the Intake. Im not sure about you guys, but I couldn't really hear VTEC utnil I had a header. When I had just the intake you couldn't really hear VTEC, but you could definately hear the secondaries opening. What do you guys think?

Probably because your AEM CAI filter sits at the bottom front portion of the car, as opposed to short ram intakes.

nah, you won't really hear it with just an intake. however, you will hear the secondaries without the resonator.

yeah, I think people are getting the secondaries opening up confused with VTEC. I guess it sorta sounds the same

I could hear my VTEC with just intake. It wasn't really very noticeable though. Not compared to the secondaries at least. Now with header and exhaust I can REALLY hear VTEC but I can't tell when the secondaries open up. How weird is that?

My friend has an AEM CAI in his gizzer, and I could here VTEC when he hit it... but you guys are right, the secondaries opening up is more noticable.

If you really want to hear your VTEC, take off your muffler and drive around like that. My boy did it and you really heard VTEC then

I don't know what you guys are talking about not being able to distinguish sound notes.... if you pay attention carefully when driving past 4500RPMS, the sound not will change...and when the secondaries open up at 5750RPMS---thats when the music really starts.

I agree totally . You really cant hear VTEC until you have at least a header. You think you're hearing VTEC but really you're hearing the secondaries.

No...you can hear when VTEC engages on stock integra cars and what not... you probably just need cotton swabs to clean out your ear canals.

There is no replacement for displacement....but VTEC pwnz j00!

Get a single runner intake manifold and mod your GSR. I guarantee you that you will hear the vtec.....

I can hear VTEC...I'm just saying that you really can't hear it with just an intake. If i took up the revs REALLY slow I could hear the changeover, but not at WOT on a bone stock car.

Same here. Bone-stock I can hear it at 4400. But the intake resonator is out, though. Some have better ears than others.

i agree, i think you can hear the difference between normal, and VTEC...however, you can't hear the switch with just an intake.

I have short ram intake, no header, and greddy exhaust .... now unless i dont know the difference between secondaries and vtec engagement is i must be stooopid but im not ... i can hear it at 4500, mostly in 2nd gear and 3rd gear, kinda in 4th, def not in 5th - but i hear secondaries in every gear baby and i got no headah ! mauahhahah your a putz

Sometimes I think my car is freakin' weak. When I had just an AEM CAI, I could barely hear the secondaries open up, much less the VTEC switch. I'm thinking it's because it's a CAI and further down than a short ram? I recently bottomed out and bent my b-pipe, and the only way to hang it properly was to remove the rear-section all together. Call me a ricer, but I like the sound of an open b-pipe. At 4400, my VTEC makes a nice *pop* and gets a louder. Can't hear the secondaries at all anymore though.
