Default Engine with a knock

There is a local Honda shop that pulled a D16Y7 about a month ago because it had a knock. The long block is for sale now for $100. I am wanting to build up a 1.6. He did the usual salesman thing, "it was a slight rod knock". I've never heard it run, but it is labeled 27k miles. Anyways, I would replace the rods and pistons (& bearings) anyways, has anyone rebuilt an engine that had a knock, and the crank was fine? Please, nobody suggest buying something different, just your opinion on this engine. TIA
