Default CHP "safety checkpoint"

I was driving down the street from my house and this CHP officer flagged me over to this little checkpoint. The guy opened my hood and took out my gas cap n checked it. He jus told me that my gas cap was bad, then another guy took a picture of my engine and told me the intake was illegal but they let me off. My question is, has anyone ever been flagged down to one of those? Am i gunna get a ticket in the mail or something or was i just let off scott free?

Well, I'd think they would have told you if you were being ticketed for something, where you'd have to pay a fine. I'm sure they would have written you up right there. I don't really know what the hell that was all about anyway! I've never heard of a "safety checkpoint" where they check your gascap!

Cali sucks..... Just more proof of it here.

Seriously I doubt pulling you over for a "Safety Check" is even legal, atleast in WA. If it were me I probably would have told him to ****-off when he told me to pop the hood...

<--- Very happy there are people that actually WANT to live in cali, as I would rather die then move down there....

Damn that sucks. I'm driving down to LA next summer to see my sister and I'm just hoping they pull me over cause I will have this lovely little piece of paper from the Oregon DMV that makes me exempt to the California Vehicle code (aparently you have to comply to it if you plan on being in CA for longer than a week or some BS thing like that - so I was told by the CHP). Yeah let them try and ticket me or tell me my DOHC turbo ZC is illegal. I'll say "not in Oregon suckers"

to cops who pick on imports. I heard a story a few months ago where a local sheriff came across some middle-aged guys with muscle cars drag racing and he told them to break it up and they did. no tickets nothing. Next night 4 people I know got "speed contest" tickets for being in the same spot doing the same thing. I bet if they were older and had muscle cars it would have just been a warning like the other guys got.

Thats the funniest thing I've ever heard. Most cops in NW Arkansas tell people to go somewhere where there aren't any cars. If we are just in a parking lot hanging out some of them come up and talk to us... There are some dicks, but hey. But if you get pulled over while racing on the main drag or some busy street, its all hell.

You can only choose to pop open your hood if it's a police department (Which means you dont have to)
But if it's a CHP or sherrif.. it's a must.

Which means if you say no to lets say an LAPD officer, they'll just call for a Sherrif or a CHP.

Really? Should'nt they need a warrant or something? Basically they are conducting an illegal search of the vehicle without probable cause. Surely you must be able to tell them no, and then they would have to decide whether or not to pursue a search warrant.

Either way, it is truley a shame to waste so much tax-payer money on something so frivolous as this....

A CHP officer is classified as an "emissions inspector" under CA law. It's a loop-hole that was added.
