effects of test pipe vs cat in quarter mile
since i live my life a quarter mile at a time, just curious on the effects of a test pipe vs cat on a midly modded engine. i understand the cat will give more backpressure, resulting in more torque, but it also strangles the high end...
the testpipe on the other hand robs a lot of torque, but dumps it out on the high end...now is the high end of the test pipe overbearing on the torque (60fts) of the cat?
just curious...

well when i timed my car the first time with the exhaust hooked up(straight pipe with NO cat mind you) i went 13.11. next time out, i just had a little downpipe that ended about right where i sit in the car, no modifications otherthan that, and i went 12.9

You don't lose torque when you drop the exhaust and you don't gain torque with a catalytic converter. Common myths. Backpressure is the enemy, period.
