About 2 weeks ago I noticed the camber adjusted all the way out, this way a little bit after I got an alignent with camber and caster adjustment. I could not adjust anymore because the arm is all the way out already. I took it all apart today and saw this!!!


Will this be covered under warranty?

 

How could that have happend?

 

It appears to me that the height of the car was too low for the spring rate you have. So the A-arm was hitting the shock tower and got bent out of shape.

Just speculation, but one way to verify is to pop the hood and look at your shock towers. Is there any "bumps" or paint chips?

Is 500 lb springs not stiff enough?

 

the thing that gets me the most is that the last time I got the camber adjusted they have to have already been bent and the tech did not say anything, I woudl have noticed them bent or thought it was weird they were maxed out at almost -2 camber when the other side still had a lot of room.

I guess I have to buy a new set

Actually I have the bumps and chipped paint but that is from before I got the camber kit, so this kit has never hit before. I better make sure on that.

 

Actually it looks like the alignment place messed up your arms. How low is your car anyways?

How much do the SPC kit cost? Does it adjust the same as teh skunk, I don't like the INgals style, a bitch to adjust.

 

im looking at getting the spc kit because i have read so many horror stories about the skunk2.

you replace the stock ball joint in the stock a arm.

 

any pics of that installed?

 

the SPC kit only adjusts +1.5 to +3 deg, the adjustability on the skunks is more flexible.

Anyone know how good the Mugen kit is, even though it is more expensive...

That would be it. If you see small bumps on the shock tower and paint chips, then yeah the arm is hitting it. 500 lbs is ok, depending on how low your car is. I ran 1008 lbs before (18K) and the car was lowered to about 595mm (23.5") from ground to fender lip. The arm hit the shock tower. But now I have 1120 lbs spring and lowered to 590mm (23.25") and it's working fine.

I doubt it because the stock upper A-arm is much more compact than the Skunk2 kit.

 

Are you saying that the stock A-arms could not have hit?

I know the stock arms were hitting, because it has been hitting when I hit a hard bump on the road ever since I first got the GC springs and that was over a year ago. The camber kit is fairly new.

My ride height is at 22.75 from the ground to the fender lip. I could go a little higher, I used to ride at 23.5 with 350 spring rate and that is when it would hit with the stock arm.

i have thme and they work great for me . like i said they are on all my cars for a reason , we run them on all the street cars and race cars.

22.75" from ground to fender lip is LOW! Very low. The diameter of our tire (195/55-15 or 205/50-15) is at about 23.2", which means that you have at least 1/4" of tire tucked inside the fender well. I run over double your spring rate and I still can't go that low.

That can't be good. Your shock was most likely bottoming out, and the upper arms are hitting the shock tower (stock or not cuz it's just way too low). And I have hard time imagining your car would have good handling..... most likely worse than stock.

Holy Cow Dude. That is VERY VERY low. way too low. Wai's car is very low, but his spring rates can handle the load. Raise it or significantly stiffen up the springs/dampers.... if it isn't a track car, i wouldn't recommend 20K springs.

 

I can try raising it a bit, I know for sure it will not hit or be less likely to, but I can still have 1 to 1.5 finger gap between the the tire and the fender lip. I only hear it hit when I hit a hard bump on the road never on regular driving or small bumps, By inspecting the springs they are not bottoming out, but I can't say much for the shocks, not really sure.

The only time this car is on the road is when I am on my way to an event othewise it sits at home.

 

are you sure you have the arms on their respective sides? if you switch the sides you will get more negative(?) caster, but the skunk arms are rumored to have clearance problems like that unless you bang out the sheetmetal.

I don't think Mugen makes a camber kit, but I know King does.
