Aftermarket DVD/Navigation
Has anyone had good experience with any aftermarket in-dash DVD/displays with navigation? I'm looking at Pioneer, Kenwood or Alpine (in order of most preferred to least preferred). I'm tired of getting lost in big cities
Alpine, Alpine, Alpine. They make OEM Honda systems, and IIRC BMW units too (I know the 330CI I messed with the other day had a OEM radio with a tag on the unit its self saying /////Alpine). The alpine nav unit is beautiful. It's also excellent in big cities or other areas where the GPS signal can be blocked out. The unit uses speed sensors and gyro's to monitor your movement and give a really accurate position even when there is no GPS signal. I'd have to say the *ONLY* GPS systems I've seen that could beat out the Alpine system found in the US is the setup for over in Japan. Since the island is alot smaller, when you come up to an intersection, instead of just showing roads and arrows, the Japanese system shows the builds, signs, roads, etc, all in 3D with arrows pointing where to go. That's the system I want! lol
