DC-5 Type R Vs. DC-2 Type R !!!!!!!!!
Ok. The topic pretty much explains itself. I was just in the rsx forum and i saw this video. It was pretty much an all out battle against the two. To my Surprise I didn't think the DC-2 would out perform the DC-5 type r on the track. I guess the drivers behind the DC-5 weren't that great behind the wheel. Besides i thought the DC-5 r would out perform the DC-2 on the track. But i guess this video just proves that newer isn't always better. Has any of u r owners viewed this video clip yet?
From many vids ive seen of the two, stock for stock the DC5 is a tad faster. Although modifed its more of who did the better tuning/parts selection.
I think it really depends on the track (and the drivers).
If I recall correctly, in one of the best motoring videos, there was a battle amongst the new Rs (EP3/DC5) and the old Rs (EK9/DC2). the EP3/DC5 outpowered the smaller-stroked, older EK9/DC2.

stock DC5 ITR (JDM) and stock DC2 ITR (JDM) would be close and depend on drivers.
having said that the stock DC5R does produce more HP and Torque than stock DC2ITR. Plus i beleive it has a stiffer chasis aswell.
THis gives it (DC5R) the advantage.
Stock DC2 ITR (any spec) vs Stock RSX - S - thats a different story.

I would probably attribute that to all the penalties (both weight and motor) that was placed on the ITR because of it's record and that it started in a higher SCCA class than the RSX. The RealTime ITR with all the weight penalties ended up being about as heavy as it is stock with full interior, which ended up being HEAVIER than the RSX's current minimum running weight. So the RSX's get to be lighter in weight and are allowed to make more power. No wonder it's faster.
I think the ITR just got too buried in penalties, which was probably what the series organizers were trying to do anyway. I mean one car wins 6 years in a row, that's not something a race organizer wants to have happen.
However stock for stock the DC5-R (JDM) is probably faster, if it wasn't then Honda really would be dropping the ball (like they aren't anyway).

Tons of cars are faster in the previous gen than the newer gen.
4th gen preludes vs. 5th gen
Last model RX-7 vs. RX-8
etc, etc.
I haven't seen the stats yet for the RSX-R, but I doubt they're going to get a car with struts to pull more G's of latter acceleration than the ITR.

Don't u remember what the conversation after race between Tsuchiya (Espirt DC5R) and Mr. Ichishima of Spoon? Tsuchiya is all upset because Hattori in the Spoon DC2R beat him far and square with old car.
Mr. Ichishima's respond was " DC5R = Sporty car, DC2R = SPORT CAR!"

very true... i was very suprised watching that video. i was soo proud to have a DC2R when it was over. I just got my R this year and i was actually considering waiting for the DC5R. I'm glad i didn't.

Yeah, th DC2 is the better racing-base....
To compare stock vs stock is rubbish, because nobody races competitions with a stock-car...
I guess, the DC5 is the better daily driver.

thats why i feel if the ITR's were still in heavy competition ...and not so heavily penelized ....and Cunningham was still driving them ....they would still own the competition ..
but of course , thats not gonna happen .....Acura doesnt want to see their old cars winning , they would want their new cars (DC5) at the top , for marketing reaosns of course ...

To put it Simply.... The DC5 has a faster and more powerful engine. But the DC2 is More Nimble. This is my take on it. Sure the DC5 is SLIGHTLY faster in the 1/4 mile I really mean Slightly. The best comparrison of these two cars is on the circuit... The Best TIME the DC5 was about 2 seconds Faster than the DC2 98 Spec. We are talking about BONE STOCK Cars. Of course it is hard to tell with only 4 laps. I would give them 50/50. Granted I am not as use to driving the DC5 as I am with the DC2. And two the DC5 wasn't my Car so you know how you feel driving someone elses car and there could be the difference.
I can say this On the Straights the DC5 was Smoothe and Quick seems more powerful than the DC2 in that condition. But in the Turns, HANDS DOWN DC2
I am not that familiar with the DC5's Powerplant but I seem to be more comfortable with the Bseries engine.

Did the Accord , TSX , or TL at some point not have a double wishbone suspension ?

I think the DC2 with a 2.0 l engine is the BEST combo. I like the Style of the DC2, but the DC5 has a bit less drag IMO. I like the DC2 Sus better than the DC5 or EP3
I guess Honda was trying something new with the McPherson setup I believe Porche uses similar setup, but IMO the Double Wishbone is better on the Track. Maybe I am just old fashioned lol
