The leader of my young life club (christian highschool youth group) approched me tonight and asked what I was doing on friday. He told me that Young life was sponsoring a couple student to drag at the local speedway. We are all racing brand new Camero z28's, unfortunately, I believe that the cameros are automatic.

Could someone please brake down the main things in dragging?
The prize money is $2000 and I think I'm racing against amatures so any advice that could give me an edge would be great.

Sine it's not your car:

1) Do a mad a$$ burnout in the water box. If it's automatic, rev it in neutral and drop it into drive. LOL!

2) If you manage to get out of the waterbox, then stage accordingly and stomp on the gas on the third yellow. Or you can brake-torque and hopefully get a quicker 60ft. (Hold the brakes and rev it to the torqueconverter's stall speed, probably 2500-3000) But just don't red light.

2b) If it's manual, then you know what to do.

Some people are real jerks.. The kid comes in and asks how to race his CHRISTIAN sponsored car and you tell him to bring you 18 year old girls of various sizes.. Some people have NO manners..

I am sorry if I did not take this guy more serious, but if I look back to how I started , I did not just show up and expect to win, let alone look at others as beginers or novices when I had not been to the track myself. I went watched and learned, took advice from others while I was at the track, I did not go to win, I went to have fun, over time I learned quite a lot. I do not think a couple of quick pointers over the internet is gonna make him into john force.... all of you need to lighten up. Jason

I also agree that you really can't give the kid pointers over the net... it's just one of those things you learn from practice and watching others. I'm sure once he gets in the car he'll realize it also isn't all THAT difficult to grasp. He may not be good, but he'll make it down the track.

alright for some REAL advice and not argueing. Drag racing is mainly all about your reaction time. Line up the top 2 yellows and about the 3rd yellow gun it, don't wait for the light to be green. Also when your going through the water box dont do a huge 2 hour burn out. It's a street car just go through the water and just spin them a few times to clean the tires off. Hope that helps. yeah our 1/8th mile track is awesome gravel burnout box, staging lanes that wrap all the way around the parking lot, and accelerate uphill and decellerate downhill with a sharp *** turn!
