For a $1,000,000 I think you could design any bike you wanted to.......

Build, probably not.

Then you'd be something along the lines of Buell. Off hand they started ith something in the ballpark of 11mil... obviously not enough as HD pimped them out

didnt they use HD motors from the get-go? that ruined them.

also, eric buell is a very creative designer, his bikes are too radical. i could see them burning through $11million like nothing.

i want to design A bike, and i know i could assemble several protoypes, as well as put together a complete business model, including production agreements on subcomponents and final assembly and integration for well under $2million investment.

as a matter of fact, i just learned that Fisher is doing exactly this. this is my idea to a T and someone is already doing it. there will be a full writeup in an upcoming Motorcyclist issue.

basically they made a vtwin literbike to compete against ducati using a 1000cc Rotax engine, aluminum frame and ohlins suspension components.

excellent starting point. the real deal breaker is tooling up to make a good inline 4 motor, which is what I would like to use. now that would cost millions.

There's a lot of guys coming out with rotax powered bikes. I remember 2 italitans and a european off hand. Now building a competitive supersport is another story.

The last time I was in L.A. I was talking to Jesse James and referred me to an old interview he did making reference to John Brittain and the bike he built that won at Daytona. I believe within a few years we'll see something sporty come out of WCC... but who knows.

Glad someome else knows a little of John Britten's visionary motorcycle. You want to see a bike that was years ahead of its time here it is.

Decimated all races, forget about competition there was none. The man was a legend and if still alive today would have this bike at the top of the pile.

As for a competitive US motorcycle, whats the need? The market forces swing to cruisers and until hell freezes over no-one is going to give it up to Harley Davidson. Buell are 'interesting' but uncompetitve.

I have raced against one in the 'open' class and it went OK, held onto the dukes all right but speaking to the owner the amount of capital needed to bring the standard bike up to 'pace' was unreal.

As for Indian its sad. All of you who say 'So what' are missing the point. No they didnt make interesting bits of kit and looked for the retro market but their place in history should be respected. If it wasnt for companies like Indian, Vincent, Norton, Triumph, Sunbeam etc then you pretty little CBR/GSXR/ZXR or whatever might not have existed.
