Internals for H22a Turbo
hey waht is the best pistons and rods setup for h22a turboed SH? right now i have Arias 9:5:1 forged pistons wiht crower rods in mind is that good? and what size pistons are best? thanks a lot.
i went with CP pistons and crower rods.
my block was sleeved by bensons, thru earl at laskey racing.
the sleeving job was incredible and i believe its 950 installed including the the sleeves. highly recommend his work.
i will have the car running within a month, will post results here afterwards.

Good to hear good stuff about the benson blocks. I was planning on sending my spare short block to them as soon as time alows me to yank it all apart and I have the money to pay for it.
To me the benson sleeves (through earl) are the best way to go right now. A little pricey sure but for the knowledge you are getting from the two of them its money well spent. If you wanted to go a little cheaper on sleeves proably GE. At least that is what I would do.
Also just crower rods should be fine unless you are planing on buliding a race only motor. Titanum is way more than you would proably ever need in a street/strip car. All strip and 20+ psi of boost I could see the reasoning.

i dont know all that much about sleeving and all but why does it come out so much? i see prices that say like 49dollars each and all but then it turns out to be 1000 bucks from what people say on HT. how come? is it cuz of labor? and which ones are the CP pistons? thanks.

There fore labor and misc cost on it is pretty high. It is well worth it for piece of mind and an absoulte if you want to make good safe power, that of course in addition to a great tune, lets not even go down the whole FRM forged piston arena. Earl sells cp pistons in addition to offering the benson sleeves (search for username Earl in the search function should bring up the info on these items. CP is a brand of pistons the same as say wiesco. JE, or Arias. They are the current "hot" piston or piston of choice as it seems every product goes through at one point or another (usually for good reason too).
Hope some of this helps

hey, thanks a lot for all the info. good. loll sorry but wht you mean by FRM forged piston? oh and is this a good setup Arias 9:5:1 Forged pistons with crower rods? or prefer soemthing else? looking to put some serious power to the wheels. thanks.
Running pauter/je setup on current motor. The spare block might see cp's or another set of je's. Hands down the best rod for max power and reliablity is pauter.
If anyone needs them I can get either or.-pdang

i have pauter rods in my 3SGTE engine for my mr2. they are awesome rods... but if i recall correctly i found them to be a little on the heavy side. if you break a crower rod in a h22 your doing something wrong... i went with the crowers cause they were immediatly available and price was decent and they are more than enough for my h22 which i have a goal of 600whp some day. i would feel safe with either a crower OR pauter... whichever you find the best price and availability on is the one i would go with.
