Default extra cable on head unit, 94 prelude Si

im changing out my head units. i unmounted hte stock head unit and found all the wires i need for the harness to attach...however there is a thicker black cable that is hooked to it! the cable goes towards the shifter, not the front of the car so i assume its not a hot wire. i know the head unit has a code anti-theft system, is that what this is for? i need tyo know if i can just cut it off so i can install my new head unit.

Sounds like the antenna cable to me. Is it hooked into the back of the head unit on the right side looking above the deck w/ the faceplace pointing towards you?

For a second there, I thought you were referring to the cylinder head. Yeah thats your antenna cable...plug it in, plug it in.

yep, its the antennae cable. as i went out there to work on it while waiting for an answer, i saw a wire that said power antannae and thought that was the wire, but it turns out it was exactly as you said...i guess everyone comes up with a moronic situation every now and then!
