ok so im driven down the bypass @60 mph and on cruise..all of the sudden the car starts to accelerate w/o me pressing on the gas and all of the lights start to blink (check engine/oil/sport shift/both turn signals really fast) and the car dies and i roll to the side of the road wtf happened..help is appreciated...and yes i checked all fuses,has new wires/plugs and distributor.

 

were you able to start the car again? I would start with testing the ecu.

 

nope it wouldt start ..its stuck in indy..and i live in south bend, i have to pick it up by this weekend too. bad situation

 

Haha, sounds like the ECU bit the bullet or something.

 

you might have had a voltage spike of some kind. Were you hit by lightning? because being zapped can make things like that happen.

For everything to go crazy like you described (including non-ecu related functions such as the turn signal blinking fast as well as ecu related trouble lights) means either a terrible wiring fault... or a voltage surge. either way... i don't think it looks good for you.

I'm guessing the car cranked over after the incident. Was there juice near the battery? A sign of overcharging.

What happens when the ignition is on the "on" position? do the lights on the dash turn on and off as they're supposed to?

 

my car just shut off on me too while driving. lights work, but wouldn't start...turned out to be my ignitor...its most likely the ecu or something electrical..

 

well i smelled acid after i stopped along side the road so i checked the engine bay and the battery which is new and 1000 cranking amp battery was bone dry and smoking..so i poured some water in it and it tried to start , it turned over but wouldt fire .also the metal cold air filter rest against the battery and was sparking when i lifted the hood too.never had a prob with that before this though.. could that of made the shorting in the wires?

 

one other thing when the ignition is "on" the check engine and check oil light is still comin on..where is the ECU and how much to replace from a boneyard?
