Default Any PASSING techs. out there?

Sounds simple, go and pass, recover line. BUT...as you may know, most times the other guy isn't just going to let you go by, willingly anyways...

Which leads me to my question, passing techs. anyone? I know the simpler points of "bugging" by going side to side, getting "on the ***," and the ever popular downshift, but any more? In particluar, any good-working feints or fakes? How about just funny-to-see it work kind of passes?

Although it may be hard to describe in words, any advice, opinions, or info is welcome. Thanks!

Technique depends on what the turn is like and, on most tracks, there are only a couple of viable passing options given two relatively equal cars. What track, particularly, are you looking for hints on (or better yet, which turn)?

If you can pass him, resorting to acting like a jackass probably isnt going to help you any, and probably only slow you down.

Most racing organizations spell out what defines a pass and at what point the driver being overtaken must relinquish the position and give you room.

Here's more of what I meant in regards to passing...

Straights are kind of obvious in what you can do in a pass. So, in general, I'm not going to focus on that section of a course.

On the other hand, how about through cornerning? On a sweeper I find that "riding on the ***" before entry makes the guy ahead have 2 problems. One is the corner, the other is me. Splits attention between 2 tasks, sometimes gives way to an opening. BUT, any other techs. besides overtaking the optimal line?

How about on sharper turns (nearing 70~90 degrees)? I usually try to accelerate like a madman if space permits and take the best route through, makes someone who is a little slow in decision making "give-up" the corner. Any suggestions for before entry?

Then there are chicanes...I kind of view these as straights when I can, when not, I just try the above-mentioned maneuvers.

Basically, what can a driver do to pass before, during, and after a corner to pass? Feints or fakes? "Set-up" moves? Oh, and in regards to BUMPING (contacting another car's bumper), is it allowed?

Thanks!

If you want to pass on a technical section of track where you are are clearly faster you will need to back off a bit leading into it, make a good run though and out of it and you should have no problem setting up for a clean pass at the exit of the section. Especially if they can out-power you down the straights.

What series or group do you race in/with?

Thanks for the suggestion, it works!

In regards to ".RJ" post above and the question as to what series/group I'm in...I'm not in any weekend amateur or pro leagues. Not SCCA either. Situation of "would like to be, but can't yet."

I practice passing/lines on mountain roads and occasional autoX (can't pass there, that's just lines). Just trying to pass a couple of Turbo RX7s (FC3S/FD3S), S14 Silvias (turbo too, it's horrible on straights...), Subaru WRX, and such with my EG Coupe. Obviously, power is a problem through straights (though not long, can't keep them behind forever), but I often times get ahead in corners or technical road sections. Other Civics, Integras, Celicas, and such are passable, but when some Japanese guy in a FD3S comes by and can corner, it's like "CRAP!"

Just thought I'd ask for some "tips and tricks."

Are you saying that you actually ride people's asses and try to make them screw up on PUBLIC ROADS? Holy F#$@ dude, I'll look for you and your "competitors" (as well as any innocent bystanders) in the obituaries section. Take it to the track.

If I ever caught a stupid **** doing that on my *** on a public road I would pull the e-brake on your ***

the best way to pass 95% of amatuer racers is to put pressure on them

pull into the blind spot, stay in the mirrors, make them make the mistake
