Default Pricing on Prelude....Opinions Please!

I'm still having fun w/ my prelude as a project, but soon after finishing it and getting it to where I want it, I will be selling it to pay for my next project: a 91 MR2 Turbo.

What would this be worth?

- White 92 Prelude Si w/ brand spankin new H23 VTEC, completely rebuilt...0 miles
- Koni Yellow's on lowest perch on Neuspeed Sports and camber kits
- Aluminum or Gunmetal - painted wheels w/ new tires
- AEM CAI, exhaust, header, all new maintenance items
- NOS wet kit
- Blue/Black TRD Celica racing seats, stripped trunk
- Flip Face Sony Xplod HU, possibly hooked up to a 4" LCD in dash w/ DVD player
- 2x12"'s in trunk
- Custom mounted gauges and tach
- Full body kit: Xtreme front, BW sides, Kombat rear
- Decent paint, good body

I know that modifications won't really count in the car's price, but I'm aiming at gettin $7000 out of this....pretty good for a good-condition Prelude w/ brand new motor in it. There are a LOT of ricers around here, I think it would sell fairly easily, and I'm near Atlanta GA.

What's it worth?

it all depends on what you mean by 'what it is worth', to a car dealership, i'd say around 1500, lol, to a private seller that knows their **** or just think it looks cool i'd say somewhere around 7k

Well, what I've seen places the value of your car between $5,500 and $6,500. Contrary to what many people think mods actually drop the value of the car and a rebuilt engine isnt seen as a good thing. Even factory options, like $3000 rims down the road end up only adding $300 to the value of a car. A dealer wouldnt give you much for the car and neither would an informed buyer.

Despite this, that very same dealer would take the car and mark it up because of they know there are plenty of suckers out there. Because I'm sure there are tons of guys out there, especially ricers, who will spend the money on anything.

So I recommend going as high as high as $7,500 and see if anyone takes the bait.

Thanks,

I would NOT be taking it to a dealership.......ugh!
Nah, it's gonna be sold to a private buyer.

And yeah, I'll at least get the motor broken in first, and have a *little* fun w/ it...

Sounds about right. A semi-high mileage VTEC Prelude around here will go for 6-8 easy, and a good condition Si goes for about 4-5, so I figured a really good condition H23 VTEC w/ some options should be able to fetch 7k....thanks guys!

Guys, I don't think he is taking it to a dealer to trade it in.

You guys always say that mods on a car actually decrease the value. That is NOT true. Mods only decrease the value if you are selling it to a dealership or an average consumer.

There are a lot of people out there who are willing to buy a modded car. They are probably just not willing to pay for the sum of all the parts...in addition to the value of the car. $15,000 worth of parts on a $6000 car does not mean you will get $21,000 for the car...but you could probably get something like $12000-$15000...but it will be more difficult to find the right buyer.

Personally, I would be reluctant to buy a modded car because after seeing how a lot of you guys think that using VTEC is part of daily driving. But that's just me.

Good luck selling it.

Heck naw!!! Good god man, just what kind of guy do you think I am???

I may have a body kit, but I'm no ricer. I'm not too fond of the kit anyways...

Long story made short: My my front bumper got busted up pretty good, and the rear could stand a coat of paint. A guy locally traded me my rear bumper and stock sideskirts + $75 for a full body kit; that's all I could afford at the time.
