Question about stolen property. Everyone reply PLEASE
Good Day folks. AS some of you know, I am the race director for a sanctioning body in Canada, called the National Compact Racing Association ( http://www.ncraspeed.com ). One of our pro stock competitors has raised a very good question. I was asked this morning if our body was going to do anything about stolen property. I didn't have a really good answer for this, except that, there is no way for me to verify if parts are stolen or not. The question I pose to you guys is this. How do you guys deal with people you KNOW are using stolen parts? I personally would like to see them arrested and jailed for it, but there is really no way to prove that the parts are stolen without involving the police. Which is a whole other story. Most people in our industry don't want to see the police when they arrive at an event. For fear that their cars don't meet emissions, or safety guidelines, and fear that their cars will be towed away or impounded. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

That is a tough situation to deal with. I am not too sure how it should be handled. But I know there are some that will give input. And here is to thieves

Theives suck but at the track it should be a totally fun time without having to worry about police. Keeps the cops away and let the boys play. Im getting tired of hearing about rules everywhere.

Apparently you missed the point of my post entirely. I'm pretty sure I covered the fact that I didn't want to involve the police. That is obviously the intent, no one wants someone there to ruin the party.

i understand you point totally but maybe i worded my response poorly. Even if the guy is using stolen parts its pointless to do something about it at the track. Without involving a 3rd party there is nobody to be the so called judge and you want to avoid that as stated. About the only thing you can do is overlook it and hope that the theif gets what he diserves later down the road. It will catch up to him sooner or later.
I say get the police involved and let them rip the dishonest fools apart.I dont mind them showing up,I feel they scare the thieves away and my car is more protected....and around here in states the troopers do get involved and show up at some tracks to do random vin checks cause stolen import stuff has been out of hand.
BTW...They cant do nothing about emissions cause its off-road use on private property.

I think we should Tar and Feather people that have Legitimatly stolen property. But waht do you do if some 16 year old kid bought a block of the recycler or parts trader and it turns out to be stolen? that is ware the problem lies, did that person do it or did the person they got it from do it and didnt know any better or have any way to check said parts?
It's going to be tough to enforce. Especially with everyone having swaps bought from legit places such as IAS that buy recovered cars from auctions. The swap is bought and paid for and clean but the computer may list it as stolen. Then you have to worry about bringing reciepts for all your parts with you to the track, and the hassle, plus the extra man power involved. It's not worth it.
I have personal experience with someone I knew and trusted turning out to be a thief. Basically since I had no proof ot involve the police I just made damn sure that no one wanted his business. Not only are thieves lowlife pieces of chit, they make import racers as a whole look bad. At all the domestic and street events I go to there is not a problem. But the import races I attend have a strong popo presence as a result of this nature. So I say if you cant do anything about it make sure the person with the stolen goods knows that you disapprove and let all his associates know that he/she is dishonest.
