ive noticed a few itr's that run touges and road races run 205/45/16 front and 195/55/15. anyone have this setup or culd explain the effectiveness?
Most of the Ek9's over in Japan in the N1 races use 18 inch front wheels with 16 inch rear wheels. The area of improvement is with maxium rear contact patch grip with higher revolution rates to get the *** end to rotate in the corners.
For the Autocross I run 1.5 inch wider Slicks up front.
And a higher (harder) compound up front.
To be specific,
20x9.5x13 R35 front
20x8x13 R25 rear
The idea is to maximize the ultimate overall grip.
The softer rear compound is to allow some heat to build in the tire.
The harder front compound is based on the weight of the car.
I'd say it works pretty darn well, as all the EP competitors use this setup.

some itr's run up to 225/45/16 in the front for touges...ff, so more traction in the front, right?

From what I've seen, it's more like F16" R15". I have never seen any EK or DC2 race cars in Japan run more than 16" EXCEPT for turbocharged ones.

I used 215 or 205s on the front and 185's on the rear since i started racing the car. usually Hoosiers on the front and hankooks on the rear.
Spring rates, stock for one season and then 200lbs front and finally this season 400lbs front and always with 450lbs rear springs however with the 400lbs front i really could use stiffer rear springs. Say 800-1100lbs.... Maybe i'll be foolish enough to send my rear shox to Koni to get velved........maybe
Car is a first gen CRX.
Results? 2003 SOLO 1 Overall Champion..........
This setup works and i'm surprised more people don't use it. however their are draw backs such as not being able to rotate tires. Perhaps if i were to run a optimized rear spring i would want wider rear tires to go with it. Development continues.........
