Any hassles owning a S2k?
I'm thinking of getting a s2k, but if i have to worry about the s2k getting stolen (like my integ), then i'll look elsewhere. Also, is vandalism a big problem too?

Slashed tops yes. But that applies to all convertibles.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Hrm...i see. I guess that gives me more reason to get a hard top with it. How much do those usually run?

I don't think you will have any theft worries for an S2k as is for your Integra. If you live in Cali the weather is nice enough to make one a daily driver. Unfortunately, NJ weather sucks..

There are some seat locks someone makes on S2ki for the seats as well.
I'd get a beater if I were you if I had a s2000. That's just me though.

the only problem is not being to drive it all the time. i purposely take the long way home everyday but i still get upset when i reach my house, i just want to drive longer...its a lot of fun.

Well the only way for them to steal your car is to tow it or if you left your key in it. Our keys have a chip in them that communicates with the ECU. Copies other than that of the factory will not work. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I don't have any major concerns with my S2000.
Only a few, which is characteristic of many cars:
1. Low tread on rear tires makes it very unstable in the wet, even when going straight.
2. The rear antenna simply unscrews and is pretty prone to theft. I got mine taken twice. Luckily I had two spares. This is my last.
3. The body panels on the car are very thin....a door ding is VERY easy to get.
4. I'm afraid of someone slashing the top or keying the car. I have been lucky so far. ::knocks on wood::
That's about it. But it applies to many cars. It's a great car, and I wouldn't let these things stop you from getting one.

The '00-'01 integras also have this "chip" in the keys, yet they are still stolen all the time. Is it different for the s2000?

ahh and stinky, they have them and actually, you cant get the chip made by the vin, it needs to be matched with the immobilizer there unlike mercedes or bmw. But how they can be defeated is there is a pinout on the ecu for the immobilizer, and if you bypass that or jump it somehow, and then manage to get the ignition turned (which is cake for thieves) then it can be done, they were talking about it on s2ki.com..... but the bottom line is if they want the car, theyll get the car period, and the more expensive the car, usually the less you have to worry about theft( this is just a generalization). Thieves dont steal cars so they can use them for themselves, they do it to sell the parts and it is much easier to sell civic or integra parts than s2k or even prelude parts....

yeah, pretty much they'd have to bring their own ECU, Ignition and Key if they wanted to steal the car.........
Or I'm sure some true professionals have figured out a way around it.... but those guys are the same ones that are gonna steal your Ferrari or Rolls Royce......

I had the same complaints about the stock tires - no problems now that I switched to the (cheaper) Dunlop's. (Not quite as good grip, but plenty good for my general-aggressive driving.)
I haven't had any vandalism problems. I did have someone reach in while the top was down and steal all the change out of my cup holder. It was just $10 or so, but I wasn't real happy. It's the principle of the thing. Of course, I'm glad I had the glove compartment locked because I had a laptop, digital camera, and an AR-15 in the trunk at the time...
I've also been a bit frustrated with the convertible top. I've got the plastic window and I just gave up on keeping it clear. I pretty much just drive it when I can have the top down now.
And if you're tall (I'm a little over 6'3") it's not super comfortable for long rides - you'll definitely need a second vehicle for road trips. It's comfortable enough to enjoy a nice afternoon's drive, but my legs start going numb if it's much longer than that.
You've also got the mixed blessing of "everyone notices you". Sometimes that's what I'm looking for, but sometimes I'd rather just blend in with the crowd.

The s2000 really is a step up from owning the usual civic/integra.
The interior is very high quality compared to an Integra. Gives you the euro vibe.
The only thing you really have to worry about is having your antenna stolen. Otherwise, you can leave it there all night and no body with even take a second look assuming it looks stock.

i dont own one, but i have driven them and the only thing i've noticed that i didnt like was that with the top up backing up is difficult because it has a large blind spot. other than that i love the car.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the blind spot... It's terrible! Changing lanes to the left with the top up is taking your life in your hands. Another reason I try to only drive when I can keep the top down!
My roommate drives an Eclipse spyder convertible and complained one time that the top of the windshield and visor got in the way of seeing traffic lights. I just replied - "As opposed to a roof?"

neither. I've never gotten good advice on what to use. The honda dealership recommended (and sold me) honda metal polish. It worked okay, but there's still plenty left to be desired. And it's a hassle to bend around to clean the inside - especially at my height. I haven't checked in some time - what are people recommending now?
