header! the stock d16a6 header blows.

I made nearly 1sec improvement with just a header
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=341510

I have that header, a 4-1 Kamakazi ss for sale too
(how convenient huh? hehe)

PM me if interested

after the header...
cam and cam gear should be your next priority to utilize the new found air flow you've aquired.
It will greatly change the characteristics of your engine. ohh and you WILL like it.
check out, web regridns if your poor.

not too sound ghetto, but I found I didn't need AC or power steering- you said "cheap" and I found a noticeable differance dropping these on my EF

ya you need a header on that thing. next would be Throttle body upgrade, then cam and cam gear + tuning.

Yeah, from what I've seen, D16A6's with I/H/E respond really well to cams, but only if they can breathe.

What kind of TB upgrades are we talking about here.
What kinds of gains can be seen?

I'm looking at picking up a cam and TB sometime in the near future but need some good pointers. I've heard sooper good things about exospeed.

My setup right now is as follows:

d16a6
AEM CAI
DC header
2 1/4 exhaust
Shaved head (11:1 Comp.)
Full port/polish
balanced & blueprinted bottom end
RC balanced injectors

I know a cam & TB would really unleash some good power on this setup.
Any suggestions, estimated numbers/gains?

I'd start out with a ported stock TB, We are starting to offer these services soon also. they run about $150 shipped back to you and includes the new butterfly to match the new opening. that should be a good upgrade to do on a budget setup.
match porting the Throttle body with the manifold is a good move also.

Gain is nothing crazy, like 4-5hp, but it all depends on the other stuff you have. lets say, you just have bolt ons.. dont expect too much on the TB modification. But once you have cam, headwork, bottom end.. etc. each of those little things will make a big difference. camshafts expecilly will want more Airflow and with a better flowing TB, you can increase the potential of the camshaft upgrade.

Shaved head (11:1 Comp.)

Man, your setup looks good already with a nice head combo... you need some nice cams to drop in there and the TB. I guarantee that those 2 things will make that motor scream...

Reccomendations & prices on cams?
I dont really want to upgrade my springs/retainers just yet so I'd like to have a mild enough cam to be able to use those, but still make some decent power.

Our Street A6 cams dont really require Upgraded valvetrain if you dont plan to rev past the stock rev limiter. we only recommend to upgrade the valvetrain if you want to go like8k rpm. you'll be able to make good power with the stock limiter, but for sure you wont get the full potential of the cam. and you'll know that it will want more rpm.. just by how it feels and sounds.

So if I went with the 2nd stage cam I could utilize my stock springs but would benefit more with an upgrades valvetrain that could withstand higher revs?

How much would you guys run ($) for a complete valvetrain upgrade and 2nd stage cam? I guess I wouldnt need any more headwork except for the valvetrain. how lopey is the idle and how much of a decrease in gas mileage is typical?

YEs that is correct.

Our cams run about $200 with core exchange and the valvetrains are $330 for titanium retianers and Valve springs.

Idle on the SR909 is close to stock, but with stage 3 headwork, stock bottom, we usualy get about 130-140hp to the wheels.
decrease in gas mileage.. not that much diff.
once you get to the next level cams like Our Race A6 and our Stage 4 and 5 cams, thats when gas mileage and idle changes drastically.

I noticed that summit sells a version of that header for both 119 and 189. Do you know what the difference is between the two?

Example #1 for 119 http://store.summitracing.com/...37020

Example #2 for 189 http://store.summitracing.com/...37024

Now it looks like the first one does not come with a "y pipe" or a collector, and also does not have the "step-down" that the more expensive piece has.

I do agree with these headers being good, and what makes them affordable is the fact that you have the option to get them untreated, meaning no coatings. just trow some header wrap on there and you have an affordable upgrade, that makes decent power.

Is the sr909 the 2nd stage?
What does the stage 3 headwork consist of?
p&p, valves, springs, retainers, and that $330 is uninstalled right?

Port match intake mainfold and head. Good 3-angle valve job.
