Default b-series swap... what suspension setup for autox/ road race? (not quite the same old topic)

*I posted in the hybrid forum and got 0 responses.....:

dohc vtec is nice, but the motor weighs a bit more so now I'm wondering how to keep the low front and high rear EF in the good handling department.....
I've got a pretty good idea of spring rates, but I want to use as much of the ITR components as possible (I have some lying around). Like lca's and rear swaybar, etc..... Can't I just swap them over? Or are there aftermarket companies that make replacements in the right geometry for an EF? I already have the itr 5-lug on the car....

The reason being, I want to be able to swap suspension components (including coilovers) between my EF and my itr... I will need to be able to use the rear itr style shock mounts.....

*Many guys recommend something along the lines of 450F/ 500R for spring rates..... BUT, the car is gutted in the rear - so how far off is that from their recommendations? Also, the added weight of the b-series motor and tranny + a/c might make it even wores..... Thoughts?

PM Hunter on here, he has a similar setup. With a B16A in an EF Civic, completely gutted with a cage, I think he runs 425/600.

If you already got a cage in there, your weight distribution will be altered once more. I would corner-weigh it, determine the distribution, and make decisions regarding spring rates/ride heights etc. based upon that. Shocks should be set up according to the spring rate.

don't bother... i'll be kind enough to post in here.

yes... right now i have a b16a in my '88 STD hatch. running 425lbs front/ 600lbs rear. i wanted to go 450 front, but shultz had some 425's layin' around for cheapy. so being a college student, i bit.

the car is gutted almost as much as it could be per echc rules ('03 rules so we'll be changing soon.) car weighs in (w/ full cage) at 2000lbs even. i would definitly say run almost a 200lb/in split b/t the front and rear spring rates. the car rotates very nicely, and it is very easy to steer the car using just the throttle. i have had to catch it a couple of times though from lifting too much. all in all, i like the setup. however, once the koni's get revalved and shortened, i'll most likely switch to a 600f/900r setup, and see how that does.

also, running CRX Si rear sway and no front.

hope this helps... PM me if any ?'s

-Hunter

edit: i don't think you have any options as far as a suspension that u can switch b/t the ef and itr. i own both, and was thinking the same... rears can be swapped (assuming ur using '88/ITR rear Lca's on the ef) but i don't think the fronts can be.

Hey now, it's still a daily... beater. (and only .2L more displacement than a b16 )

So I'm afraid the upper limit on spring rates will be in the vicinity of 600lbs simply because I can't afford to fix a chipped tooth.....
