Default OT: BMW Resources?

My dad is looking at buying a 99 540iA and to help him I'm trying to find some websites with information on them (options, common problems, etc). I've struck out so far using Edmunds, Bimmerworld, BMWCCA, etc. Any suggestions!

What do you spacifically want to know, I'm sure some of us here can help you out a bit. The 540iA is a great car, the 6speed is even better

Yeah there are quite a few BMW people on here so ask and we'll do our best to help out. You should have him try to get the 540 Sport with the 6-speed and the stiffer suspension. Or is he looking at a specific car?

Options packages, trouble spots, things of that nature.

My dad is looking at a 99 540iA with the Sport Package (34K miles). The price is ridiculously low IMO (mid 20's) and I'm suspicious, so I want to know things to look for (TSB's, common failures, signs of abuse).

I can pick out bodywork fairly decently as I detailed Bimmers, Porsches, Ferrari's, etc in college, but mechically speaking I'm not versed in BMW's so if there's anything I should look for.

Found a very good site.

http://www.540i6.com

Has a "they all do that" section with common problems and fixes. I was suprised at how many things go wrong!

I ran into a similar issue when looking for technical help with a Nissan. (I resolved my issue, btw.) Nothing out there compares to the resource we have available at Honda-Tech. Don't take it for granted. I HT
