because a honda accord is a family car first and foremost driven by people who don't want a manual tranny, it's not a sports car nor is it marketed as a sports sedan. although many of us would have liked to have a seen a V6 5sp in the 6th or 5th gen accord, honda did not feel we were a large enough market to make it cost effective.

well, the prelude was the sport coupe back in 97-01
the line was dropped in 02 and the v6 240hp with 6speed accord coupe replace the honda "sport coupe line"

Honda made a very poor Accord V6 auto tranny. Plenty of guys with Accord V6 and guys on the CL, TL, boards have had problems with their auto trans. Honda extended the power train to 7yr/70k miles from 3yr/36k miles. on all their cars equipped with a v6 auto transmission.
