Default my new carsound cat.

I installed my new Carsound 94000 cat today. It took me about 2 hrs +/-. It was a pain to remove the old cat bolst, specially the top one without removing the exhaust! The car feels the same below 6k rpm, which I predicted. After 6k rpm it seems to pull a lil harder. It feels like 3-5 HP, which I was hoping for. I consider it a good mod for only $165, specially with aftermarket cams.

i know what you mean about the install......i took about 4 hours to install my Random Technology cat......but thats just cuz we took about 2 trips to home depot to find new bolts, cut bolts, and rethread bolts........sucks cuz the old cat had studs and the new one didn't.......does feel like it pulls harder though

I just took it to another test drive. It definetly pulls harder! how much harder? I really do not know. I hate to guess because from experience my butt dyno has always been wrong! My car dinoed 157 whp before the cat and wires. I am hoping it at least makes 160 whp now.

Default Hint on removing the cat...

The top bolt is a pain in the *** to get to. What I've found works really well is to remove the two rubber exhaust hangers that are a little further down than the cat. This allows the whole exhaust to drop down quite a bit, so the top bolt is MUCH easier to get to.

Just the thread I was looking for. I'm lookin to get a new cat. Any suggestions as to which cat, other than the carsound? Cuz I'm sure there isnt gonna be an extremely big difference with a catatlyic converter. So, I wasnt really lookin to shell out 165 bones for one.

Also - where to buy one? Any websites?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, guys and gals.

the Carsound cat is the best and cheapest. The Random Tech is about $80 more and some people have had problems with it.

Email this person smsproducts@carolina.rr.com
He was extremely extremely helpful to me and he is a distributor of Carsound cats. I also believe he builds headers.

wow

i was expecting to see some more gains than 3-4 whp.

or at least i was at least hoping to see more gains

i was even more supprised that on austins car he had the same HP with the test pipe compared to the carsound cat.

Somtimes, the bottle neck isn't in the exhaust. With very mild cams, you do not require a straight pipe/high flow cat.

even 3 whp is an excellent deal for just $165!!!! I paid $550 for an exhaust that only gave me 3 whp!!!!!!! that sucks!!!!!
Let me tell you that 3-4 whp is noticeable! The biggest difference is that now the car seems to pull all the way to redline, before it would quit after ~7600 rpm.
Also, a hi flow cat is legal and will not destroy our ozone layer. A test pipe is $80 so for me, paying another $85 and being environmetally friendly was a very big deal!
I did not expect a 10 hp gain, but the hi flow cat will certainly help once I get more mods.
