Ok...I bought a 1990 CRX Si in July...runs great (178,000 miles, stock engine with new timing belt). It's been in my driveway for awhile getting some body repair done to it. This past weekend after not starting it for about 2 weeks I tried to turn it over. All dash lights came on. Could here clicking from the starter and no start. The dash lights started to fade. Took it to get charged...battery was low (only 2 years old). Put battery back in and the clicking noise slowly died off. So I installed a new starter (Autolite) and put the battery back in. All dash lights and radio come on strong, but no clicking noise. Swapped out battery for my new Civic battery just in case and same thing...no start. Had a good rain shower between when it worked and now doesn't work. I think that's all the details. Any ideas?

 

well i was goning to say your starter but sence u got a new one.... then...... have you checked your oil? ok i relly am stumped on this one... unless their is a broken or grouned wire going to the starter, thats my only guess

 

Nah...just got an oil change 4 weeks ago.

 

Are all the connections good for the starter?

 

Ah...and no ground wires to the starter. Just positive terminal hook-up and whatever (ignition) send from the fuse box I think...if I'm remembering right. Hooked it up just the way the old one came out.

 

That's the only thing I have not checked. Tomorrow night I plan to Multimeter the s.o.b. and see what's up.

 

sounds to me like your battery doesnt have enough juice to crank the engine.

 

Yeah...but I pulled my battery out of my 2000 Si which starts the beast no problem...checked it before pulling it and then popped it into the REX and still nothing.

 

hook up the battery directly to the starter and try to start it manuely, then u'll know if its the wiring or just the battery..

 

Yes...I was gonna do that as well...father works for Identifix and the Senior Honda Tech there suggested the same thing. Thanks!

 

Replaced the main relay and back in business...beast starts and runs again.
