wether the pistons will occupy some of the same space as the valves do at some point in the revolution of the engine. hence broken timing belts or over advanced/retarded cams can cause engine damage from pistons and valves touching each other.

I don't think there's a honda auto engine that isn't interferencing...

Well there is always some what of a space it just depends on how much force there is to throw the piston up into the valves. I had the timing belt break on me when I was doing 85 mph on the freeway and all I did was replace the belt and all the valves were fine. Someone that I knew that use to have a CRX was drving through a parking lot only going about 20 mph belt snapped and it creamed his valves.

that piston looks like the victim of something else other than the valve hitting it once. It looks like your timing was off and you drove the **** out of the car .

naw thats just those new style super compression endyn pistons, gives you like 20:1 compression with a b19a4 head mated with a b15x3 block

That's a stock piston when a timing belt broke at 8000 RPM during a burnout.

Sounded like a can of nails being shaken up. It broke one intake and one exhaust valve head off, and bent the other two in that cylinder. Bent the rod, and the head was garbage.

The instake valve as you can see was now a part of the piston, the exhaust valve was not to be found until we pulled the intake manifold. It fell out of the intake port.

Apparently both valves broke, the exhaust valve went up the intake port, and we found that it had gotten wedged behind the bent intake valve. Weird.
