Comments on LS hatch
I have been getting a lot of downplay from some of my friends that i have talked to about getting an ls in a hatch... i dont understand really, all this hype about "noo just get a gsr" i mean i would love to but i just dont have the money. If you guys could just post some information about your ls's in your hatch's i would appreciate it, maybe some pics too
are you going to keep it n/a or boost it? who cares what people say. you can find a ls swap farely cheap. get a 99-00 si tranny if possible. i hear the ls trannies are poooooo. ive seen alot of nice ls hatchies on h-t do some searching....

Sweet midori hatch there! I have one as well and I love it (midori hatch, that is). It's bone stock right now but I'm planning some 'upgrades' in the near future! Good luck if you try to buy it.

I say do it. I hear from people all the time saying that ls's suck and have no high end blah blah. My friend has an ls'd crx dx with i/h/e and ran a 9.3 in 1/8 (full interior on slicks). It's Pretty quick. To be honest sometimes i wish i would have gotten an ls rather than my gsr..just for the low end. Anyway if u worried about the power dont...it will be a good investment....oh yea now that his car is boosted...HOLY ****...that thing is fast. Good luck on whatever u decide.

Hey bro, i got an LS in my hatch, you'll have fun with it trust me, then when u get tired, you'll have the money for boost or vtec!
And hey I got a B16 complete head just sitting here with your name on it!
And heres the valve cover you get with my B16 head!

Absolutely no reason not to get an LS swap. they are much cheaper than the vtec swaps and will still give you a good bump in performance.
I would also suggest looking at a B20 swap. Almost the same exact size, and you get more torque and the potential for more power later on. And very price friendly too.

I've had an integra ls, an eg with a jdm b16 and an eg with a b18b1. The b16 was great, pulled really hard up high, but was boring until vtec. The car ran a high 13 in the 1/4. Now I have an eg with b18b and its the complete opposite of the b16. There's plently of torque and power down low, but it starts to flatten out early. The tranny is weird compared to the b16 tranny. I have to be in 3rd to hit 60, whereas I would hit 60 before I shifted into 3rd on the b16. On the highway at 85, I'm under 4000 rpms with the ls tranny. With the b16, I was at or over 5000, a couple seconds away from vtec.
HOWEVER!!!! everybody is so quick to say "get a vtec tranny" for ANY b20/b18a/b. My friend has a jdm sir-g tranny in his integra ls, and because of the stock redline, the gears completely don't compliment the motor. The tranny is meant for a motor that is shifting 1500rpms later than the ls.
I see alot of potential with non-vtec all motor set ups as well. Theres a few people here on h-t running 12's and 13's in not so crazy cars. You can get a crower cam/cam gear/spring/retainer setup brand new for an ls motor for under $1000. Add some ctr pistons and a nice header and chipped ecu, and you will have a very fun and potentially fast car with under $1800 in mods. Now, at this point you will definitely benefit from a vtec tranny. If you sell your ls one, you can probably get a jdm lsd tranny for 6 or 700$.
Another good thing with ls motors is that parts are cheap, especially heads, since everyone is so quick to ditch their for an ls/vtec setup. Also, you could decide to boost, go ls/vtec or go all motor.
One thing I have noticed though, motor swap places like hmotorsonline, etc charge way way too much for ls swaps. These motors are a dime a dozen in junkyards. You could probably get a complete swap from a salvage yard for $1000 or so.

I installed an LS last June (2002) and I'm just now starting to get bored with it. Time for some boost. For the cost, ease of installation, and power I think it's a great deal. No complaints here.

I've had my b18b swap for almost a year and its nice........pretty quick id say for a daily driver.......not too fun to drive over 100 because of the lightness of the car but local driving u can speed around and boost would definitely be optimal for the ls motor........my opinion ....heres my car
