Default Stupid question about tire squeeling

When your tires are squeeling, are you at the adhesion limits of the tire or do some tires just do that while still being well within their limits of adhering to the road?

I think that it is at the limits since the squeeling is caused from the tire slipping and rubbing on the road.

Yup.

Take your fingernails and press them firmly against a chalkboard. No noise. Apply slight sideways pressure so that they're not moving. No noise. Apply slightly more pressure so that your fingernails drag....besides the cringing that we're all doing at the moment from imagining the noise and sensations thru our fingertips...you'll realize that this applies to tires.

Yay for examples.

I just wanted to add that you can try changing the tire pressures so try to gain a little more grip if your tires a re squeeling more than you think they should be. If they're too low or high, you won't be at the tire pressure for maximum grip.

Some tires squeal well before they are nearing the limits of traction... it all depends on the tire. Some are predictable, some break loose instantly with no notice...

Get down to an empty place and throw the car sideways a few times so that it completely lets go, the sound of this is way different to when you a sliding a little.

I run pretty standard Dunlop's and they bark like crazy but let go predictibly.
