Default Yet ANOTHER intake mani. thread

Not the typical ? on manis this time... I don't want to hear about AEBS or SKII.. I want to know about STOCK manifolds that have been modded. Mainly the GSR one. I've been comtemplating removing the butterfly plate from the mani, leaving an open cavern of air inside. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yeah, I know it's not a conventional thought.. but then again have I ever been known to be conventional?

I once was wondering the same thing. I asked Alaniz how much to make a manifold like Erick's. He quoted me $1200 but even for that price he said he didnt want to do it. He really hates porting that manifold. But then again that manifold kicks *** will kick any 50mm itb setup.

one of our dealers does a good job at doing a port and polish job.

once my car is up and running I am going to test a stock gsr without the butterflys but stock shaped, to his ported version

i just need to get it running

im willing to bet a good ported gsr intake manifold will do better than a stock skunk2 IM on the gsr

I'm about to take the plate out and cut all the carp outta the center of the mani- I'm thinking that this should be good for some serious HP gains- maybe? Does anyone know what exactly Erick's plenum is like? If I can do it myself then I will... I've got the tools and talent (for the most part) at my disposal.

really?!?! I've been told that the whole chamber is carved out. The plates are just spacers and there's nothing inside the plenum.. just a huge chamber of air.... I'm not out to race against him, or take all his tip seceret info.. just want to mod my intake and know I'm not wasting my time...

Does any one know if you can just take the whole middle plate out and then bolt it back together? Would that cause any clearance issues?

It depends if you want to lose bottom-mid end power.
You can try it by just unplugging the harness for the black canister that controls the butterfly. This will keep it open at all times. You will definitely lose power in the low-mid end.

I had mine ported by DPR and I gained power throughout the powerband.

most of us that are using the GSR mani have the butterfly plates out. Removing the center plate would shorten the chamber, but I'm not sure if it would help much... You'd still have the cast circles and squares from the plate on both sides of the plenum. I'm thinking to see signifigant gains, you'd need to remove those... I'm going to just bite the bullet and do it this week.. no sense in sitting here waiting for someone to answer..

I was contemplating the same type of thing awhile back. Cutting all the runner "chutes" for lack of a better term out won't be easy because of the way they come together. Let us know how it comes out.

My friend took out the secondary butterflies on his gsr intake manifold. He didn't carve anything out, he experienced a loss in all ranges but very high end.

Well somehow somewhere there's a way to make this thing flow well or Erick wouldn't be using it. Besides it's cheap experimentation and fun wrecking stuff.

well if u watch there in car vids the car doesnt run under 8500 rpm so i dont think they are worried bout low end loss lol yes ne manifold with alot of plenum is gonna have a high end power gain and a loss of low end if the motor is not big enough to take advantage of the manifolds plenum volume it will bog or lag from to much flow at low end just requires hours of coutless tunning to get what they have at ericks.
