Did you talk to anyone about putting these in? That would have been my first suggestion. Anyways I put my gauges on with the needles still attached. As for fixing your RPM needle, I don't really have a suggestion. Maybe start your car, and let it idle, if you know your car, you will know where it idles. If not I don't know what to do.

people actually use their tachs? I can probably tell you the RPMs of my car at anytime by just the sound. :/

And, no offense, if you're having trouble with installing these things, what makes you think you'll be able to drop a b16 in it soon?

so what exactly is the problem? I have dissasembled and reasembled several of these clusters so I may have an idea how to fix it.

make sure you didn't push theneedle on too far, if it drags on the face (usually the base of the needle will do this, not the needle itself) it will no move.

ok this exact same thing happened to me too. all i did was take it on and off....wiggle it....push it in half way and turn a little....take it in and out while the car was running, and finally it started working. it was pretty random but i've fixed it this was at least three times now. its really a pain in the *** but it should work in the end. good luck
