OK, took out CAI, re-installed stock airbox assmebly...
Thanks to the 50 dollar craftsman tool kit on sale at sears. anyway yeah, i decided to sell the cai, and use the stock assembly w/ k&N filter...problem is i dunno what the part number or model of filter it is....so anyone know which k&n filter model/part number fits in side the stock airbox??? thanks
Just curious but which CAI did you have and why did you decide to remove it?
Myself, after installing my Spoon header I found it to be the biggest performance mod yet. I am planning on doing a dyno run with Rodney and will dyno my R with the stock air intake, with the Comptech Icebox and OEM tubing, with the whole Comptech Icebox and short-ram, and hopefully with an AEM/CAI too!
I understand and also feel that the CAI doesn't contribute nearly as much Punch as the header does but, I will do the dyno runs and test a little to find out for sure.
Another Q, why don't you get a Comptech filter? they are right off the shelf and an overnight ship away, for $60. or so. I ran the filter alone in my OEM box and felt almost the same gains with throttle response as with the full CAI.
Good luck,
A.

I was playing around with my options to see what setup would get me the best 1/4 times.....for the record, im not officially a memberof the 14 second club with a 14.890 @ 92.xx......
with the stock airbox (w/o the resonator and downpipe) i felt more torque but i guess i lost out up top becuase the highest trap speed I managed today out of like 15 runs was 93 i thik....2 days ago, with the AEM CAI, the lowest (while grinding 3rd was 95.xx) and the highest was 97.01....so hmm...
so i guess my options are:
1) get the kn filter, drop it in, and make an extension from the filter box cover thing down into my fenderwell with like pvc pipe or something sort of like a cold air intake tube? dunno if it'll be the same as the aem cai...
2) get the comptech filter, and leave my airbox assembly as is, or make the extension
3) Put the aem back on

I did your #1 with the Comptech filter and felt that performance suffered as compared to stock setup with full resonator. I also felt that with just the Comptech drop-in that I had better performance than when I monkeyied around witth the intake and resonator. I did feel good gains with my Comptech icebox but noticed nothing with the full Comptech short-ram attached.
I did however notice Big gains when I coupled my "I" with my"H! My header shall remain nameless, it just goes to show what everyone always says about the single best performance mod for HP is a JDM header."
I did the same stuff I just went with a different company.
Good luck,
A.
