Default bang for the buck GSR bolt-ons

Okay, a buddy of mine is a poor college student. He has a 94' GSR with a Apex'i cat back and a SRI. What we're looking for is best bang for the buck power. I was thinking we could thow together some sort of cool-air box with hardware store stuff then look at a header. Any suggestions? The less money we spend the better but, the need for speed is still there. Thanks for any help.

If you guys are looking for more power, I would suggest getting a header and a high-flow cat, based on the mods you already have. Remember, the intake and exhaust components must be viewed as an entire system for it to be effective.

Otherwise, a new set of sticky tires will make a WORLD of a difference.

I agree with tires. Short shifters won't do anything for speed, but they're fun. A rear sway bar is always good, too.

bang for the buck?

ITR 22mm rear sway
DC JDM header + testpipe
DIY icebox
Maybe Skunk 2 manifold, if you consider it a bargain at like 350 dollars total

are you saying it'd be 350$ for ALL of that or 350 and THEN the Skunk 2. Besides doesn't it take some modification to make the Skunk 2 manifold fit a USDM GSR motor?

I'm talking about 350 for the skunk manifold, after the throttle cable, pulley, and all the other misc crap you have to buy

It doesn't take modification. Its made for a GSR. Its a replica of the ITR manifold for the GSR. Its a great mod, get rid of the dual stage runners in the GSR manifold and open things up with a single runner.

AEM CAI, Skunk2 IM, Header, Cat and then you'll be very happy.

I've never had one on my car, but ive never heard of anyone disapointed with one. He asked for bang for the buck mods, It will be better than spending $500 on an exhuast .

I would rather use the 500 on an exhaust, at least you'll get a couple of horses, w/ the pulleys you might mess up your motor. Or get custom mandrel bent piping w/ a straight through muffler for half the price. However, I do believe in the r&d that goes on w/ exhaust testing, so i dont run custom.

Yeah i agree with you, i had heard the rumors and chose to never get one, because of the same reasons .

Ever since i went turbo I look at bang for the buck a totally different way because for most people who buy i/h/e and spend 1k and gain maybe 8-10 whp, to me that is insane.

</TD></TR></TABLE> yes, best bang for the buck would be FI, 1)nitrous 2)turbo 3) supercharger, but most folks here can't afford to do a good setup.

Used parts are the best bang for buck. I got a used AEM CAI for $100. You can't get everything used though...because some things get worn out.

Comptech headers and carsound cat=$650. that should finish off your exhaust system and get the ITR rear sway bar + bsq kit.

if you're staying cheap, dont bother with a Skunk2 manifold. Gains will be almost nothing (maybe even a loss) without new cams. the GSR cams are designed for its own manifold and switching out just the IM will just not be worth it IMO

considering the comptech tig headers are $480+shipping and the carsound cat is $150 with flanges+ shipping, $650 for both isn't that bad.

Gains are actually good with the skunk manifold on a GSR. I installed mine and on the street it gave me about 3/4 of a car length on a car that before was dead even with me. Also, when you installed it, you could see the power it makes, with Intake-intakemanifold-header-tpipe-exhaust you have a pretty quick, fun street car

Exactly...impossible to judge it by a street race as so many others factors come into play.
