Need suggestion: Head light bulb dies, want to replace it with something brighter
Hello Everyone,
My first post
Recently, the headlight bulb of my
'98 V6 EX died, would like to replace it with something brighter. So many choices, and not too much knowledge about what to get. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Silverstars.... best damn bulb out there without the "ricey blue" light. i would compare the light to a 5300k hid light, ive gotten many compliments on them.
Thanks to iam7head, Atuned2.2ccord, 1994AccordSiR for your prompt responses
. I did a quick research and it seems that SilverStar is a way to go
SYLVIANIA have them listed (pair of bulbs) for around $45 with free shipping. I think the model number is 9006ST for the low beams. I plan to currently replace only the low beams
.
Thanks again and Happy Motoring

What is the typical life of aftermarket headlights? I read somewhere, they last at least a year or so, so is that considered to be longer than usual?
Thanks!

the silverstars are good bulbs
I'm surprised that nobody mentioned this though. do the 9006 -> 9005 conversion. in about 5 mins time, you can convert your highbeam bulb to fit into the lowbeam socket. Definate noticeable improvement in the ammount of light, and in about 18 months, I've yet to see any real downsides.

To everyone that replied to my post (question),
I did purchase and install silverstar bulbs to my Accord and what a difference it made. Thanks a million to everyone who responded
.
I have been meaning to post some pictures that I took as I was installing the bulbs. Extremely hectic and busy life kept me from doing so
.
Anyway, better late than never....
Thanks again

hmmm i thought those were whack just because kragen carries them, oh well i guess you never should judge a book by its cover, well unless u read the summary in the back. im gonna pick up a pair of these babies and see for myself
Clarification:
HIDs aren't illegal. If they are it is a local or state law where you live.
However, there are NO legal HID conversion kits in the US. And the government is now starting to go after companies for selling/marketing them. I believe it was APC who first got hammered on this one....
Not only are HID conversion kits not legal, I have yet to see one that is a good idea. While they provide more light, they have the downside of blinding other drivers (unlike OEM HID setups) because they do not have the same spectral content or focal point of the light when compared to the OEM halogen bulb. The only way anybody should ever put on an HID conversion kit is with a headlamp assembly meant for that particular HID kit.

What about hooking up a HID set up in your fog light's? Would that even work? They would be aimed lower to the ground and might not blind ever driver on the road.
That is legal. The problem with using HIDs for your regular lowbeams is that the OEM light housings aren't made for them, so a lot of drivers end up blinded by them.
With the foglights being mounted so low it's not really an issue.
Personally I'd just go HID foglights and a set of Silverstars and be done with it.
But HID's in your regular headlamp housings look so damn good.

Are you sure HID foglamps are legal? I'm not so sure they are, but they may be.
However I have the whole problem with many people who install foglights are too damn stupid to realize they're supposed to point right down at the ground, not up into my eyes. I've literally seen foglamps that will shine right on a sign mounted over the highway when the car is only about 100' away from it. I'm talking shine directly on it....not just illuminate it a little.
HIDs look good and provide a very nice amount of light. Personally I'm hooked on them.....but I'll only use a proper setup, never a conversion kit.

Never heard of that but honestly it sounds like a waste of money IMO. Spending that much money for the kit and installing it for fog lights?
