They use a chambered design. That would be restrictive, compared to a straight through design.

Exactly, Magnaflow are straight through.
The only reason to buy a Mugen muffler would be to have the JDM bling. Not worth the money IMO. My magnaflow worked awesome.

I had a flomaster on back in 97 or so for a few years. No resonator either and that thing was LOUD! Not high pitched whiney loud either, it actually rumbled like crazy and would set off every car alarm when pulling into a parking garage. The drone was also unbearable.
Eventually upgraded to a Trust system that got stolen (&^$#!@%) and no have a Greddy (same thing as the trust basically) and love it.
