whistling on 90-91 SI's?????
i was just wondering if anyone knows how the 90-91 hatchback si's seem to have a loud whistle through the intake or even open air box ... and can i get that same whistle through my 90 crx SI??
u want a whistling noise? OK.... do u have your stock intake on right now? did u try taking the anti-resonator piping off of it? this will make the exhaust note louder. that might b what u r talking about.

He is not talking about exhaust, He is talking about his intake. The whistle is normal, I have had it on my 1990 CRX Si and now I have it on my 1990 Civic Si. Both cars had different styles of intakes and they both whistled. It only does it at certain RPM's right? The only thing related on both cars were the cone style filters. I have no idea if you can stop the whistle, I wouldn't think you could, If anyone has any ideas let me know.
my friends 97 GSR engine in his hatch has done this since he got the skunk2 manifold and its really loud. I've also heard it on my brothers 95 del sol with the Z6 and intake. I have a theory(not proven) that it has something to do with air passing over the throttle body butterfly and the shape of the edge of the butterfly. I think this because if you've ever blown on the edge of a piece of paper it makes that same whistling type noise until you blow too hard then the noise stops because it overwelms the side of the paper. Like i said not proven but it sounds good.
lol, it's because you guys didnt adjust the tps right. Your idle is somewhat low right? and it whistles on certain RPM.
Why would you want it to make that sound anyways? Do yourself a favor and adjust it.

Lol, No my idle is not low and it has nothing to do with adjusting the throttle position sensor. It also has nothing to do with "Wanting" a whistling noise, It has something to do with how to get rid of it. The shape of a cone filter in relation to the direction of air and turbulence while it enters the intake at a certain RPM under acceleration causes a minor whistling sound. The whistling is a very common occurence and it is nothing to be worried about, It is just an annoyance.

how would tps have any relation to the whistling sound, it doesn't. My Z6 engine doesn't make this sound and i have cone filter, and i've heard this sound on panel style filters also so i'm still not 100% sure where it comes from, but i actually kinda like the noise, i dunno maybe i'm weird though

The whistling occurs at exactly 5psi of vacuum.....all my honda motors do it at the same vacuum as long as you have an open airbox or cone filter, that is unless the car is not runing right. HTH
