4bidden was going to try to make one for the 5th gen, but I dont think he ever did. Only 4th gens get them.

i have a cheap EBAY short shifter adapter which works well enough. as well as a DC would, anyway. It's a pretty simple install, you just need to cut a little bit of the plastic on the shift boot frame. got it for $20, and i don't really have any complaints.

, you have to trim the plastic for the car to go into third correctly. total install time was about 45 mins. I got mine for 30 shipped and IMO it was worth it. My only complaint is it is a little hard to put it in first gear.

Can the short shift adapter cause you to grind gears inbetween shifts, or does that only happen with actual short shifters.

The transmission should not grind even on the shortest shift. If it does, you have problems somewhere.

If anyone has a 5gen shifter laying around they'd like to donate, I'd be more than happy to try and continue the 5gen project.

I didn't know they made a true short shifter for 4th gens. Who?

Also, my friend had one of those adapters in his 5th gen and it tore though one of the cables. He took it off and played stupid while the dealer fixed under warranty. The dealer said he never saw that happen before.

I would say 4bidden has the better track record of the 2.

I have seen a write up somewhere on how to cut a few inches of the stock shifter and re-make the section to screw the **** on. It looked cool and some said it does make the throw shorter. I will try it as soon as I get off my ***.

4bidden i have a feeling that if you invested in a 5th gen shifter to finish the short throw project it would pay off highly. i know i would buy one in a heartbeat.
