One of my belts is slipping: Alternator or A/C
Can't really figure which one is slipping. high pitched whining AFTER the car is warmed up. Continues to slowly wine after I shut down the car and stops after 2-3 secs.
I've got the manual ready.
Any special tools? Hardships? How long should it take? Parts cost?
I plan to change the alternator belt first, then try the a/c if it doesn't fix it.

see if you are missing a bolt on the alternator
its the bottom bolt
or maybe one of your bearings in your compressor or alternator is shot

It is mroe than likely your timing belt. Takes no time, loosen up the tension bolt on the alternator bracket, move alternator forward, pull belt out, put new belt on, push alternator back where it was(try a prybar, it will help to keep tension), DO NOT PUT TO MUCH TENSION ON THE BELT!! That can be just as bad as having a slipping belt. You want like a 1/2 inch of slack, still tight but just enough for it to move a lil. Compressor belt is a little more involved but go with the alt. first.

Ah ok. Scared me there
If the belt snaps or slips off, my car should die and the battery should be dead correct?
EDIT: I'm asking about the alternator belt.

nope, if the timing belt breaks it will just break and the car will die. The batter will still work, but it will eventually die. My timing belt just broke on me several weeks ago. I was driving along, not even pushin the car, i did not hear a thing,(had the radio on) and the car just died. So i got it in a parking lot and tried to start it, sounded like something i never heard before. Could not get the timing cover off because the plastic pieces broke that held together, so i took the valve cover off and took a look and it was broke. Funny thing was, was that it was the original timing belt and i had 185xxx miles on it. Honda definitely made it last.

When I turn on the a/c it doesn't affect it at all which leads me to believe it is the alternator belt.
The sound can be heard from the FRONT near the a/c compressor AND near the REAR where the alternator is.
Going to honda tommorow to pick up an Alternator belt and report back

I meant the alternator belt.
If the timing belt slips or snaps, the timing will go hay wire and you will bend your valves and more. Original timing belt at 185k miles

My old alternator made a loud buzz/whine on a cold startup, then went away when it came up to temp. I put a new one in, using the existing belts, and it went away. It was the alt. itself.

Actually, just 2 days ago, i heard a belt making noise in my engine bay (89 CRX). I thought it was my alternator too, but it turns out that my water pump is frozen. I stripped my timing belt too, thanks to that BS. So I had to replace that, I am curently in the process of replacing my timing belt and water pump. Both parts together cost me about $57 at autozone. I dont plan to put much money into this engine because I am getting a b16 around december (once i save enough money). The B16 will get all my love.. I hope I helped you out man! Good Luk!

Replaced the belt. Removed the a/c belt.
Turns out that it's probably the alternator itself!
I'm going to just wait till it dies out on me.
