This goes in the kills forum.... but I roasted my friend's GS-T shortly after he got it, as he was not that experienced driving a manual transmission yet.
It should be close though, bone stock 2G Eclipse turbos are pretty heavy, and usually only barely break 14's if the driver is real good.

what year is your GSR?
is it a fwd or awd turbo? big difference.
if he can't drive and he owns a fwd then you could have a better chance.
awd he should take you unless you have a freak car. i think they run right around 14.8-15.2 in stock trim. if your buddy buys a 100 dollar boost controller then he would take you no problem. jack up the boost a bit just for the race and he could push mid 14's stock or possibly lower. there should be some dsm guys or someone who has owned a dsm on this site that may be able to inform you on the track times of these things.
you should mod yours before you race him, unless he isn't that great of a driver.

ya... my buddy has a GS-T----
stock for stock-- DSM will win
now IF you drive better than him, and can pull better that 15.5-- it'll be close...
but yeah-- stock GS-T in the heat has trouble hitting mid 15's-- but like pat said, as soon as he starts playing with boost, and driving better..... ur fawked

automatic transmission has a lot more draintrain power loss. therefore his car is putting out less horsepower then a manuel would. this does however correct driver error, as it can't be hard to race. even though im sure he doesn't know how to correctly launch and auto. you should beat him if you land your launch and shifts. 98 gsr's are obd2 but i think your going to be alright in this situation. if your car can pull mid 15's or so you should be alright.
