Default Mother's Clay Bar = Manna from Heaven

Dang, I realize that this has been covered to death... so excuse my nu bi ness. Clay bar is awesome ! I tried it for the first time today, after 28,000 mile of driving. It took forever to get through the car, but with each area I could hear the scrapping sounds of grit coming off. After I was through, the car felt like silken tofu... ha ha. The car looks like new (except for some dings). I wish I had some picts but my digicam got stolen. Next time all I need are half a dozen Gremlins, each with a clay bar to do a panel each.

Sorry again for my nu bi enthusiasm.

I'd think it depends on how dirty your car is. Average usage is 2~3 times from what I've read in the past threads.

EDIT: I found mother's clay bar online going for 28 bucks. It includes 3 80g clay bars. Go here.

2-3 times does sound about average.

I actually picked up a 3 pack professional can for $7. from my local autopartstore (runonintended) recently.

Personally I liked the old Meguires clay better, before it was recalled and reformulated, but, that was like 4 or 5 years ago and you can't find it anymore. But, Mothers will do the trick.

Good luck, happy rubbing

specifically looking at results not cost; I'm assuming a power polish would be better than the clay bar?

*who has clay bar but has yet to use it*

I just used it today and damnit i ran out of time. I only put in about ~2 hours towards claybar so the results were not the best. But the potential is there. I can guarantee that if you spend at least 3~4 hours claybaring the **** out of it, then waxing, the result will be unbelievable.

I bought Mother's california gold something clay bar kit that comes with a claybar, lubricant, and wax.

I've been a big fan of Mother's clay bars and have been using them for over 2 years. When Walmart was phasing them out, I was able to get the sets for about $5 each.

The key to getting the most uses is to break up the bar into smaller pieces. Also, if you run out of QD, just use soapy water as a lubricant. Lastly, try claying your wheels and glass. You'll notice a smoother window surface and less dust on your wheels.

And also don't drop it of course. That happened to me at the very end, and I cursed the heck out of it. Mothers gets damn slippery after awhile - and dropping it means bye bye for the expensive bar. Oh well, I'll be supporting the clay industry with more purchases.

Clay bar and polishing are COMPLETLY different. Clay bar removes grit, grim and slight oxidation. Polishing actually acts as a mild abrasive that removes some clearcoat.

I picked up the mothers claybar 'kit' today at advance auto. I'm guessing its because the paint is just old (187,000 miles on the car) but the claybar was trashed (the whole thing was black) after i was done with it on the car. Took about 45 minutes to get all the surface grime off - you could feel the claybar dragging against the grime as it pulled it off the surface. Used a paint cleaner after that, then polish, and wax (all meguire's mirror glaze or gold products) and the car actually came out looking pretty nice, for a piece.
